Bram Jam
I just lost two hours with an all BramBos jam. All 5 apps hosted in Audiobus in stand-alone mode so I could use the built-in sequencers and switch quickly between the apps. I used midisteps to sequence phasemaker. These apps are incredible. The jam convinced me that I need to spend some time creating MIDI controller templates for all of them. If you haven't tried something like this, please do!
I kept wanting a way to transpose all of the melodic apps sequences at once. Thinking about switching to the BSP to make the sequences because it supports transposition across tracks but dang it would be fun to keep using these brilliant little built-in sequencers. So I guess a request for the honorable Mr. Bos: allow for an incoming MIDI note to transpose the sequences if they're running? Could then do a little MIDI routing and get our Berlin School on.
Another request, while I'm be wanty: load/save for the sequences is lovely but having 16(?) quick access/snapshot slots across the bottom or top would be dreamy. A sequence file would store all 16 snapshots. Then you could capture manual transpositions or cool outputs from the randomize or variation buttons or.... For reference, midiSequencer has a nice implementation of something like this. If those snapshots were recallable via MIDI message, we'd be able to create pattern chains or entire songs by triggering snapshots from another sequencer.
And a question: any plans for a phasemaker sequencer? Was imagining something where you could enter chords on each step and a method to clock divide the sequence tempo so you could enter, say 8 chords that played over 4 measures, etc.
Damn, I can't stop. I'm sorry. Would be incredibly fun to be able to set what 'accent' controls in ruis apps. So instead of just a volume bump, it could adjust the pitch or decay or...
On that note, if there were extra Euclidean sequencer channels in the ruis apps that could be pointed at controls instead if triggers....zomg. Variations for days from a single pattern. Not thinking a track per available param or anything but maybe an additional 8 available via tab button under the 8 track selectors that could be freely assigned?
I would give my second born child up for UNDO/REDO history in Ripplemaker! Would make me feel more adventurous with experimentation. As it is, I often screw a patch up and since a lot of it is blind experimentation, I've no idea what to do to get it back.
Just ideas born from a really fun session with these apps. None of this stuff is 'needed' and none of it is meant to be 'you should' at all. I get that there are lots of variables in all of this (technical, UI/UX, external...) that I'm not considering at all. Only thinking out loud.
Comments
I think a lot of us 'round these parts have been enjoying our own Bram Jams of late, with Damaged effects for extra fun. Exciting times in the iOS world.
Second the undo request (could also use it on the variation button).
We need Bram Bos branded pajamas. Bram Jams®
Did LOL!
FWIW, I dig @syrupcore idea of the snapshot bank. The randomizer is so powerful but being able to save sequences and quickly get back to them would turn these apps into a live jam paradise.
Pajamas. With undo. Would pay IAP.
Seconded. With at least 50 levels of undo, please.
Pajamas, yes!
I just RTFM and lo and behold, you can transpose the RM and TM sequencers via MIDI CC 44. Haven't tried it yet. Anyone already make a Midiflow template that translates incoming notes to the correct CC value by chance?
From the manual:
Transpose.
Use MIDI CC#44 for realtime transposition of the current pattern. The range is -12 to +12 semitones.
• There is no visual feedback on the screen of the current transposition. Use with care!
• Set MIDI CC#44 to value 64 (centre value) to reset the transpose value to 0
• Incoming MIDI notes are not transposed, only pattern notes
• Transpose is not applied to exported MIDI files, but will be applied to exported WAVs
You wanna undo pajamas? Kind of a hot idea, can't lie.
Dreammaker
Bro couldn't have said it better myself! Please please !!!
16 snapshots for patterns would be a dream come true!! And if they're available with aB3 Remote triggers would be even better!
Great ideas!!!
Snapshots! Pretty please!! 16 is a lot and maybe hard to keep track of which is which. I'd love maybe two, three, four, even just one!
From the first time I played with the Troublemaker sequencer I wished it had the ability to instantly recall the previous version. And I prefer not to save dozens of presets of similar sequences.
Will buy Brammy Jammys if that helps.
I put one together that seems to work. It uses notes C2 - B3. It's odd because the mapping isn't exactly linear and only certain cc values work. Each note had to be tweaked to get the value that worked right.
Not sure how to share it though.
[edit] nvm, figured it out.
[edit 2] here's an AB3 preset that uses midiflow scales to keep the pattern changes in key. (Note: MidiFlow with the attached preset needs to be loaded up after the AB3 preset in order for this to work.)
This thread needs some @brambos action.
Just waking up, seeing a thread called "Bram Jam". Pajamas. Can this Sunday get any better?
Totally imagined something else when I saw Bram jam.
I woke up this morning thinking of my setup to do a little bram jam. I have to shamefully admit that I only have two (Im looking to remedy this shortly) of the wonders that are his apps but all the same, it gives me scope to setup my three ipads linked up to make some mayhem. Mixing three sources was my only concern but I realised I have sidecar and those guys gave us the tools to share audio over BT so I might try that today. I remember somewhere that BT is not limited to one incoming connection but Im not sure this is implemented, well see.
Is this the day all audiobusser wake up with thoughts of Mr brambos, wow, god like it it's awesomeness!
well no bram jams for me. not looking to turn of my wife anymore, as she is way hotter than me
celibatemaker
This is hilarious. I will attempt a Bram Jam now.
Brambos for president!
Captain obvious says: This would be helpful.
Has there been any discussion on multi-pattern arranging within Ruismaker FM. Problably beyond the intended scope. But I would like that
