Launchkey mini for Beatmaker 3

Match made in heaven...potentially :D

  • Its difficult to find just one controller to map all these pads and midi bindings that are available! I had to use 2 a Korg Nano Kontol 2 and Novatiin Launchpad mini.

Yeah. I was looking for a decent 16 pad solution with some additional controls. My nanokey studio almost worked but I hate only having 8 pads. I may end up just using it for the Arp

  • I'm really tempted, but I wish there was an option with an audio interface, two balanced inputs, like my old x-station.

  • i have an mpd 226 mapped and a launch control xl sorta mapped

  • @echoopera , there is a way to get all 16 pads by using the KORG Editor and set up Scenes, you have 8 scenes available to you that you could do 8 different mappings.
I did mines and it work perfect.

  • They're cheap as chips those Launchkey mini's, tempted to replace my Edirol with one, as it's not properly compatible with my iPad (or anything).

For the $ it can't be beat for me. Solid build quality and feel, tight integration with the Novation apps.

It also somehow feels intangebly right; not just another peripheral, a burden, but part of a music making hub.

Can you plug it straight into the iPad? Just read up on the Mk 2's, and there was something about external PSU's and firmware updates needed - maybe the older 'mini' version doesn't need it.

I'm pretty desperate for a decent MIDI keyboard/controller - my little Mikro Korg is great but only one octave of keys, and no knobs. In contrast my Edirol is a massive thing with knobs, pads and sliders galore but the controller software's been abandoned (thanks Roland) and almost nothing works. Weirdly it works fine with iMini which has a different MIDI learn to most apps.

I just need something in between the two that works, and is cheap. The Novation's look just the ticket.

Yep. I modified it in the editor. Just didn't like having to hit the scene button to shift to next set of 8 pads...felt odd while noodling. I use 16 pads in BM3 so I wanted direct access.

@echoopera , its more or less the same as a AKAI MPK Mini which you got to change banks to have this.It would of being nice if it had 16 drum pads.

Launchkey Mini doesn’t need a powered hub. Just the Camera kit.

I like mine a lot. The knobs, pads and buttons are quality and feel nice. My only complaint is the velocity sensitivity of the keys. I can adjust this at the iPad end, but by default it’s skewed low and when I do manage to play loud, I get all the loud. It’s not a dealbreaker, just something to be aware of.

Thanks for the feedback. I'd probably go for the 49 key version - I find 25 keys too limiting on the Korg, and I'd probably get the mk2 newer model. Seems to be available for about £150 which is a good deal.

Can't afford it at the moment, but I'll add it to my Xmas list.

Yep, as said, it just plugs in and works.
