  • The iPhone is useful when you have an external controller but I prefer to use on-screen keys whenever possible, so I rarely actually wind up using my phone for music. Certain apps like Figure are well optimized though.

I use both. I'm more tempted to take a punt if an app is universal. These days, if it's iPad only it needs to have something special before I buy.

  • Just for shits 'n giggles, here's what my Sales dashboard tells me (these are percentages of sales per device type):

  • I hope to change that with my "dream" app.... :D

  • I guess is it depends on the app too. On the Auxy forum almost no one uses iPads it's all phones.

  • I don't understand the consumers, not developers, who take this hardline "No, it should be iPad only!"
That would almost make one suspect that they are trying to establish some barrier to access and/or legitimacy, but surely they can't be so ridiculously petty, can they?

That's quite a surprise - since your apps work equally well on iPhone.

I guess at the end of the day it's down to which format works best for an app. For me, I prefer using KRFT on the phone, as it lends itself really well to that device. Whereas Model15 might be more of a challenge.

Some work well on both - such as the Brambos gear - but at the end of the day serious music making is going to be helped by having as bigger screen as possible.

  • I use the iPhone because it's my smartphone of choice and just happens to have the music-making capabilities that work best for my way of doing things. Portability is a key factor for me, and economical concerns. I can't justify having both, even with the advantage of more available apps and connectivity - I just don't need it that bad.

And since I use GB I have the advantage of not needing an ideal interface to put notes down - I'm no keyboard virtuoso anyway, but I don't need to be - I'll make wrong notes in the right rhythm if necessary and go in afterwards and edit them to the correct note.

Is this a thing that is in the works? Never too early to start the hype train!

Well here's to you making it a reality. Cheers!

  • Hi!

I chose both, as sometimes I just prefer the iPhone! It's so nice to lye on the sofa with BT earphones/speakers & do sound design/experimentation  Also, I don't mind when devs use many tabs/pages on iPhone (& I don't mind it on iPad too).

The best thing is when devs make an app universal & make it easy to share presets/etc to & from iPhone/iPad - Makes it so easy & fun to continue working on something you love! Also, I don't mind paying double for apps that work well on both devices. My favourites so far are Aum, Gadget, Poison-202, & of course all the Audio Damage apps!

Thanks for reading, wishing you all the best ❤️

Not saying it is my point of view but perhaps their impression is that the iPhone lowers the overall quality potential and introduces more lag in updates... (ok maybe it is sort of my point of view). Really, I only have a 4s and need it charged as much as possible and since it's all about me, fuck iphone music apps. ;). Once i get an iPhone 12 with amazing unobtanium retro chic headphone jack then yes, bring in the iphone apps.

  • Well I wouldn't even be here if it weren't for the cheap device upgrade on my cell plan, so perhaps I have a soft spot for the phone. That being said, many times I see screenshots of the apps on iPad and die a little inside, particularly when the playing surfaces are much larger with more octaves and such, cough Groovebox, cough

  • I use my iPhone 6 a lot more than my iPad Air for music and in general. Often when I use the iPad I'm also using the phone and several MIDI controllers.

Planning on getting iPhone 7s as soon as they're available. Lusting after the new iPad Pros but will wait at least until iOS 11 officially released to acquire.

Yes, the phone screen is small but is best with a different UI than simlply shrinking the iPad version.

Went to look at mine and my heart skipped a beat...

The sad thing is that 70% of those happened in that last week and are all from China and all iPhone. I guess this is what you get when your app is free to download.

  • Audiobus remote is dope on an iphone

Good stuff. I think for me it's a little more about the ease of context switching on the iPad vs the iPhone. Switching apps is never fun but particularly blows on iPhone. I'm much more interested in all-in-ones when I'm on my phone. NS, Auxy, BM2, NanoLoop, KRFT...

Or I'm using my phone as auxiliary for an ipad/hardware setup. Audio effects, mini sequencer, drum brain or MIDI Flow or...

Yeah definitely - the all-in-one's work well on the phone, I'd add Triqtraq and Blocs to the list too.

My phone is with me almost 24x7, so I like the fact that I can use Gadget, Garageband, Audio Evolution or Groovebox to work on something and then continue to work on it on the ipad, then open it gain later on the iPhone etc.
If I have 15 free at lunch or waiting for someone (my wife at the mall) I can capture an idea or edit some midi in a piano roll.
If Cubasis was universal, I'd use it more often as I like editing audio and midi in Cubasis the most out of all ios apps. But once something is in Cubasis, I'm restricted to the ipad.

  • I have an older iPad 4 with limited memory but have an iPhone 7+ With lots of memory and can utilize all the newer apps that the old iPad can't download;so that's why I'm using phone more for the time being . Maybe that's why some like the universitivity of apps because they can't afford a new device

Ha! I know an app you are beta testing!!! I am too! I think it's the best new full-featured DAW for the iPhone!!

I know you said it's just for giggles but worth pointing out that I buy any universal app on my iPhone (I'm impulsive) but still only really use it on my iPad.

I know this is a tired response, but, myself, I tend to "Shop" on my iPad in the comfort of the home studio.

Whereas the phone is for the near round the clock(red lights, toilet, to lunch) of working on ideas or jotting music ideas.

In doing so, my chart(kidding of course) shows that I use the apps that I have access to on my phone in my projects later when posted up in a session.

Yes I buy on iPad but it is not always representative of the proportion of use in my distinct case.

In fact, many loops that are the key hook or baseline or created and sent from iPhone to iPad for later use.

Ironically you are the BEST DEVELOPER FOR YOUR RATIO OF AMAZING APPS RELEASED / UNIVERSAL + usefullness = ratio

Killing it with PhaseMaker this am ...................BTW
