Noise Removal: 'Hokusai Editor' or 'Denoise - Remove Background Noise'

I'm going to pick up a noise removal app today and these two seem to be the contenders.

Has anybody used both of these apps and do they have any comments on the quality of each and difference between them?

Thanks,
Oscar

  • Hokusai’s is very good - simple but effective. Don’t have Denoise,

  • Cheers. I'm leaning towards Hokusai because it can bath export as a zip - great for Beatmaker 3 workflow (f**k 'iOS internal' stem exporting in Auria Pro!).

Curious about the noise reduction comparison though.

  • Having explored the free version of the Hokusai Editor, it seems very well designed for recording, editing and transferring instrument samples to BM3! As it also has the noise reduction tool that I need, I'm definitely going to go with that option.

Glad I looked into it! As much as I love working with it (really is a pleasure) I was starting to loathe exporting individual samples from Auria Pro.

  • Hokusai does a great job!! There is a bug with regards to stereo recordings... but this will be fixed next update .::

  • And it wouldn't hurt to have a peek at his Ferrite app, too.
I found it surprisingly ergonomic (in it's full humbleness) as and editor/cutter, much more convenient that the Editor, which I also have.

Out of curiosity, what is the bug?

It does not work correctly on stereo recordings.

You have to split the channels to mono ..apply the effect .... and then reconvert to stereo

... which really is not too much of a hassle....

Thank you! I didn’t realize it was a bug; I thought it was a limitation of the software.

While I have your attention, is there a simple way of selecting a segment of audio and dragging it along the timeline? As far as I know, the one way to do it is to select a segment, cut it, and paste it in a different location.

  • after selecting with the blue rectangle do a short 2-finger-hold, then you can move the region. If it doesnt's show the Drop-button (to accept the new position), 1-finger tap the region once and the button will show.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • sorry, that's just what it seemed... actually it's single tap to make the region selected (menue appears), then you can swipe it with 2 fingers. o:)
