What I would love to see in the next DAW (Or BM3 ;) ).
Wouldn't it be cool if a single apps user interface could be spread across multiple devices at once?
One device would act as the 'Host', doing all the audio processing, midi etc and the other device(s) (which could be far less powerful/more affordable) acting simply as a 'Shell', which send commands to the host. Turn a knob on the shell and you see it rotate on the other device. You could jump to other screens and edit note placement while tweaking attack on another screen etc.
Edit: Just to clarify, all devices, Host and Shell(s), would be active interfaces.

Don't we already have this with the various iPad helper apps for mainstream desktop/laptop daws
Cubase iC Pro by Steinberg Media Technologies GmbH

Logic Remote by Apple

ILRemote by Image Line Software

For example....
No, this is different. This is ipad to ipad running the same app, not ipad to desktop, running two different apps.
Well we do have Audiobus remote.
And
Amidio Remote - for Futulele and OMGuitar by zCage.com Apps LLC

What I am talking about is like having multiple monitors running the same app. Like on a desktop daw.
Imagine Massive on the left is the sampler in BM3. Imagine the piano roll on the right is the piano roll in BM3 with the monitor in the middle being the BM3 timeline. You could get this with one kick ass ipad in the middle (the Host) and two cheap ipads (Shells) on the left and right.
There's still room for more functionality rolled into a single touch screen page that hasn't been explored. Can you imagine multiple tracks of color coded midi sequences lighting up the screen of Soundprism while you play and record more? Stuff like that. Less screens, less pages
Would love this
I am having a hard time imagining this.. mostly because I've never used Soundprism...
I am not a player so much as a groovebox, chordflower, fugue machiner, noodle notes in a sequencerer.
After seeing this thread... I decided to pull up Alchemy on the Ipad and desktop (Alchemy ios 'pro' as a remote).. It's pretty amazing what can be done for a synth that old.. Don't know if the Logic version can be controlled by the ios pro version...
Wild! So kicking myself for having been late to the Alchemy party and only getting one pack. Doh!
Your playing surface and sequencer would be one and the same. The recorded sequences would play back visually on the playing surface and you'd be able to scroll the timeline (which would also be the playing surface) and simple grab and move things if needed. So it would be very visual
I think e are about to see some crazy stuff with the release of ios 11...
But really, Alchemy was way ahead of it's time... And the sounds.... just amazing..
AudioBus Remote? TouchOSC/Lemur?
Some iOS 11 goodies on the way this month.

I think the drag and drop is going to be great especially for DAWs
I truely hate drag and drop - it only seems convenient in the beginning.
Mac Finder and Win Explorer are the most annoying aspects of my own desktop experience.
The way Audioshare handles files is much more convenient. Multiple selects and then set destination. Bingo.
In my desktop DAW I have a similiar feature to place audio regions from a list.
Sequentially from playhead position or vertically one below the other at playhead position.
Even manual insert of a single selected item at a defined position is more convenient.
(all that surface movement might add up to miles a day)
Of course this method depends on a smart scale/zoom handling of the timeline to makes it easy to locate the target position.
(zoom is adjusted by mouse dial so I rarely have to move the mouse more than an inch)
Twisted Wave comes quite close to this with it's up/down swiping to zoom in/out, so it is in fact possible on IOS as well.
In a more general context I'd subscribe to the idea of @AudioGus immediately.
This modular approch of single apps has been on my mind forever since I got a 2nd iPad.
The tools are probably there already (onboard-networking) but might collide with some Apple defined rules as effectively 2 apps would be talking to each other.
+1
Considering how bad the Logic Pro Remote app works I'd say it's way better to have options to automate everything using midi instead.
VNC might be an option but in order to keep up with the fluid 60FPS refresh rate that would tax the Wifi/BT network like crazy and at the same time drain the battery...
Those are nice, but not the same thing. I love KRFT, but this is not about making a boiled down set of shortcuts/custom play surface. It is about spreading out the access to the whole app across multiple devices so you don't have to go deep in and out of UI rabbit holes on a single screen. Again, it is like have multiple monitors on a desktop.
Possibly Logic Pro Remote is just a poor app. Also it is not a case of iOS to iOS. And yes this would be midi like but the benefit would be that the dev could make whatever protocol they see fit as it does not need to be universaly supported.
Streaming video etc would be way more costly and unnecessary. Also, I don't see how that would even be an option as the point here is to have two (or more) active UIs on seperate devices. Something like this should require far less bandwidth than audio or a pressure sensitive bluetooth stylus.
I'd just love to be able to plug an external monitor into the iPad - use that as a screen and the iPad as a trackboard.
