Other than Gadget or GarageBand, what are the most ~widely used~ iOS synths

We have talked a lot about "favorite" and "top" synthesizers.

But what are the most widely used synths?

I tried finding app data to suggest an answer, but couldn't. (Didn't try very hard, either)

This is probably ~also~ subjective, but I would love hearing what other people think.

  • My guess is Animoog...

  • Sunrizer is a good candidate too.

    this.

  • synthmaster player ... but soooo unstable :/

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • It'd be funny if it turned out to be Sunvox

  • I would wager that Poison-202 would be a top 3 contender, although hopefully Kaspar is not too far behind.

  • Been said, Animoog and Sunrizer. They have been around for years, since before I got an iPad.

  • Magellan. Been out so long, often forgotten. Could easily be the one.

Good shout. NLog too....But before The Professor comes calling: Eden.

  • I'd say animoog for sure.

  • Yes, that list looks very believable. Mostly apps that have been heavily featured and promoted by Apple too.

Long before I got into iOS Music Production I saw Animoog in a music magazine (Sound On Sound maybe) & a few blogs, just screen shots. At the time I thought it was a touch controller for a VST Moog synth on the desktop, I just immediately thought a "Moog branded" synth would be way too much for an iPad to handle (I know of the iOS bias because I had it at one time and have been and still am around those who still have it.)

In Feb. of 2015 when I began using iOS to a person the recommendation for "best synth" etc. was Animoog. It deserves it's status for sure, although for me personally I think Model 15 is THE iOS synth to have, but I prefer analog synth tones to digital. Not saying Animoog sounds "digital" , but Model 15 is just unreal-to get closer you'd need a harware synth w/ patch cables.

This is the most downloaded and not widely used list. Many of us buy this stuff, use it for a day or two, winge on this forum and go back to out animoogs, thors, sunrizers and other (insert your favourite).

For me it's gotta be Sunrizer and Impaktor but I'm getting a bit bored with the former and looking for a suitable better replacement. Still looking ;)

Did you already report this as bug?
I plan to use Beathawk, SampleTank, iSymphonic and SynthMaster Player more for exploration of classical MIDI files.

When a software does not work or is unstable, this needs to be reported and fixed ;-)

Yes twice but no reply from developers.

  • Is there an online list of Total downloads of music apps ?

Diggin' ur look bro. Have pics of my uncle Ted that quite resembles your avatar.

M1, it's a grey area I suppose because it's a Korg synth, used in Gadget. But if we're comparing synths that you can buy standalone then it's definitely a legit one to get. M1 and Mono/Poly. I really could do with or without Odessey and Wavestation because they more or less do the same thing as the other mentioned ones (one a synth and another a PCM based synth) but M1 and Mono/Poly sound better and are easier to program.

Shout outs to Caustic and Beatmaker 3!

    Cheers dude B)
That's quite an old picture ... you wouldn't recognise me now :|

  • Maybe you could put in a Freedom of Information Request with the NSA and tabulate the data yourself?

  • Zeeon, all the way. The most astonishing synth yet to hit the iOS universe.

I don't disagree with Zeeon being an astonishing synth, but becoming the most widespread synth on IOS in less than a week? Hardly.

  • I would've guessed Thor or Animoog.

  • It's probably one of the kids ones like the Music Sparkles synth or something...

The question being 'used'... I bought Module and Odyssei in my foolish youth but never used them. ;)

Oh and do we nerd out and not include romplers?

Synthmaster is the single crashiest Ipad app I've ever used. Also the patches are not always complete--even the IAP patches. The Michael Kastrup IAP in particular is a ripoff that way, not having mapped either of the X-Y pads to anything at all.

  • BTW! Good haul BM3! :)

  • Animoog and Sunrizer I believe would be most used not only because of how awesome folks feel about them but the longevity of them in conjunction with their awesomeness.

I was wondering if the number of users is increasing too. Would be cool to see that Priori data over the years.
