Yes, all my iPads since the iPad 3 have gotten quite toasty when used for music.
Yeah defo. On a hot day they get really hot. Never had performance issues resulting from this though.

iPhone yes iPad ...not so much
Yeah but heat will definitely take its toll on the battery. My wife's iPads battery became useless after a total overheat and had to be replaced.
