How much have you spent on music apps total?

I'm at a little over $200. Pretty crazy all that I get for less than the price of one hardware synth or computer plugin like Diva or Dune 2.

  • Idk but probably more. Just Lemur was 30€ or so on sale at that moment... and I have few of these expensive apps with some IAPs. There is any way to know the total aside look at my bank account?

  • Too much...

  • How do you find out?

Thousands, but spread over six years it is still a pretty cheap hobby. Cheaper than comic book collecting was when I was just a kid doing it in the 80s. Some apps I even buy doubting I will use them much but just curious to see how they work and get some immediate time with, Like renting a movie or an instrument I guess. Anyway, as far as exposure to apps, every little bit builds on something else, even if it is just an idea or fragment of understanding.

But yah, i see iPad music as a subscription where I can pay what I want each month, lately totaly slowed down to a tenth of where I was a few years ago. Sure if I could go back and could refund any app I bought I would have a nice tidy sum for a hardware synth or vsts but that is over six years and lord knows I would not have been putting as much time into that hardware synth or vst had I had it that many years ago to begin with. Laying on the couch, killing a dreaded commute... that is a big part of this lovely convenient tool/toy that keeps me challenged and engaged.

  • More than I ever intended. But, a scams or two aside, no regrets. IOS music making was and is a revolution for me and the way I work. Overall, what we have access to at this time is mind boggling in its diversity and quality. I can dabble when I like and where I choose.

  • yeah, I'm in the 4-figure range as well, and don't mind because some aquisitions turned out to be crucial for workflow.
When I bought TC11 I couldn't even run it on the iPad One, but I admit the purchase was mainly driven by stealinging parts of the interface layout for some database app. o:)

  • Probably a million and a half quid, if you ask the wife.

  • Why did you have to go and make me think about this? :'(

  • I could have afforded 2 brand new IPad with what I have spent so far...but an IPad without my apps is like an empty house !

    ^^
HeHeHe - I'm sure mine would say the same....
My actual spend is probably (very rough estimate) equivalent to 50-70 cups of coffee :)

    Hah! Classic.

  • Last month which had loads of releases was £120!! Scarey made me think? Month before £70. Will be watching the pennies from now on. Still cheaper than desktop but it's more than a penny ago nowadays as apps get more complex and cutting edge. I think iOS has moved on leaps and bounds in recent years so expect to pay more. I got Affinity Photo today this months only purchase promise and it's amazing what it brings to the table in line with the desktop photoshop for sure. Some great apps out there.

  • I'd guess between £400 - £600, don't want to think about it too much.

Apart from a few duff/rogue apps it's been worth it for the fun factor, and I've got a decent stash to keep me going for a while. I don't smoke, have other expensive hobbies or go out much so the Mrs can't begrudge it.

Different kettle of fish this year though, I've only bought three or four so far, so I've managed to reign in the spending. Saying that I could easily get through a hundred quid with the ones on my list...

So it goes, Max23. :) There's always a wonderful new thing just around the corner.

    I would guess 500€+, maybe even 600€+

If i didnt have my apps and would be buying apps i need again, knowing what i know now about my preferences in workflow and apps. I think i could get away with bit over 100€.

  • Way to much in the past. My appoholism is pretty much in check these days thankfully :)

  • Somewhere between £750-£1000 I reckon, and I'm very happy with that because it's about 1/25th of what my hardware studio cost 25 years ago!

For me June/July/August '17 was $350+. I remember early last year doing a count when I filed all my iTunes email receipts away and it's total, from when I started in Feb. 2015 to Winter of 2016, was almost $4 G's. So I figure with another year plus of appoholism added, especially with quarters reaching $300-400, I'm at $5000+ in iOS music production/instrument software.

And I don't regret it AT ALL. The majority of the most expensive apps are tools I use all the time and the synths and apps not used often or currently not on my iPad (iMaschine, SampleTank, iMPC Pro, etc) are still there to be used when needed, like paints on the palette rarely put on canvas but it makes me happy to know the colors are available.

It's much better than spending the dough partying or doing something self destructive.

  • It led me to Egoist on PC. All worth it.

  • I don't even want to think about it......

  • I've spent A LOT over the years but will probably spend more than twice that in the future. I WILL NOT BE STOPPED!

ditto. whom ever said It was cheap... lied.

  • It's cheaper than blow.

  • Less than I've spent at Starbucks over the same period.

    Junkie..... ;)

  • Yes, a lot but, yes, less than I've spent on [vice, vice, vice] in the same period.

This place has actually settled my appaholism. At some point, for me anyway, it became absurdly apparent that, even at dirt cheap prices, I was not getting my money's worth out of my spending sprees. I still buy music apps but the pace is extremely clipped. I have more than I could ever use, let alone 'need'.
