Keyboard plugged into AC adapter still “requires too much power”
Help!
I have an M-audio oxygen 49 Silver (https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSX6doziyJY4kUE6u06jN1bV_Nyllnsuqj0ZmkfqhDUhuu-2qg) and have it plugged in to the socket with a 12v AC adapter. When I plug it into my iPad Pro 10.5 with the camera connection kit it says that the device requires too much power. Am I missing something here? Shouldn’t plugging it into its own power source provide it the power it needs? I’ve searched everywhere and I haven’t seen anyone else experience this issue.

Sorry i cant help with that device. I've lost count how many midi controllers/keys i bought and returned for one reason or another, fustrating indeed.
But if you do like maudio and you find no solution i recommend the
Maudio Axiom mini air 32. Works great with ipad.
hey, this may or may not help, but it does matter in what order you connect the adapter to the keyboard. I get the same power warning when I connect in the wrong order, for example lightning adapter is already connected to iPad. but if the keyboard cable is connected to keyboard and lightning adapter first, and then plugged in to the iPad it works.
it may be something different in your case, but worth trying if you haven't tried this yet
Have you tried using a USB hub? It sometimes does the trick, even if it is unpowered.
You'll definitely need a hub. Apple keep moving the goal post on USB power consumption. Devices that worked for me on iOS 9 ceased to work on iOS 10. And then there was one of the 10 dot updates which really killed off a lot of devices. For me it was my Audient interface and a colleague suffered similar fate with his midi keyboard. As such for studio use I just stick to a powered USB hub but as mentioned above unpowered can work in some instances. An alternative you can also try as you're powering the keyboard from mains anyway is a midi to USB cable from your keyboard to the CCK
Just checking that people reading this thread are aware (I wasn’t until today!) that the new lightning to USB 3 camera adapter takes a lightning connector... as well as providing a USB socket... and can power pretty much anything if you use the power plug that came with the iPad (jury is still out on iPhone though).
It alleviates the annoying connected usb device requires too much power message.
No it doesn't, Audient interfaces on ly work with a powered hub just as an example.
My Zoom H1 always gets slammed by my iPad for drawing too much power, even though it runs on its own battery, and my Android phone never complains. But the CCK-3 allows me to use it now. But I think I am going to get one of those cheap Behringer UCA devices so I can be more mobile.
Try this ^
All my device got rid of this message using an unpowered USB hub plugged into the cck.
Do you have to use an iPad charger to run multiple devices, or can the little 1 amp iPhone charger work?
It depends on the power output of your devices. Most of my devices using around 500ma and the iphone charger is 1000ma so you should be able to connect 2 devices (500ma).
@Proto Thanks. I think some people are using 10000 mah batteries to supply the CCK-3 with power to run their accessories now too. I think those batteries are around $20 now, too.
I need to look at that solar charger that was linked above in a previous post as well.
10000 mah should be plenty enough for when you want to be mobile and build a complete studio on the beach.
I bought this one for my son (Pokemon Go hardcore gamer):

Dang, 20000 mah! That is a hardcore gamer.
Just in case anyone happens on this thread:
I have the same controller as the OP - Oxygen 49 silver. I have an Ipad Air 2 running IOS 9.3.2
Same as them if I attach keyboard via USB through USB/Lightning adapter I get 'requires too much power' message, even when power supply for keyboard is plugged in.
If I plug the lightning cable into the other port of the adapter it makes no difference (although it charges the ipad!)
If I attach the keyboard through a USB hub it works fine. (I'm using Trust 16132)
If I power the hub then I don't have to power the keyboard. And vice versa. But I need to power one or the other.
A bit annoying that you have to take this extra step but at least it works.
