My question to those who have dived in: What is an AUDIO PATCHBAY MATRIX?
Comments
Woah.
Boffinery.
apeSoft and Amazing Noises are some of my all time favorite devs. I wish every developer would adopt their deep LFO sync options.
Kewl, I'm going to be diving into that matrix later.
So good. That is all.
What does it do? Took me a while to even find it...
Allows you to route audio between the tracks and effects.
Such a good app.
Wonderful app, and I'm loving the updates.
Can't get a sound out of this under AuriaPro, either as an AU or IAA. So no big surprise there with reference to the 'premiere' DAW. Works great with Cubasis.
Just tested - working fine here as IAA...
Okay, thanks for that. I'll reboot and try again.
BTW, my war with Apple begins anew, as the exact same fault they supposedly fixed has started up again.
Sorry to hear that. I'm drifting away from Apple too. Just clocked the new Native Instruments keyboard, so next year's iPad upgrade (if I can afford it) might get pushed aside for that instead.
Thanks.
Just had 'chat' with unhelpful Apple employee, who refuses to continue via e-mail. So I've given them a deadline, after which I hope to make a video for YouTube, cataloging the entire sorry saga. It's all I can do.
You'd think Apple would be super keen to send a replacement having returned something that is still faulty. But no, all I get is 'it could be software.' Fuckers.
To get back on the original positive topic
This iDensity update is VERY cool! Took me a bit to get the hang of the new matrix, but it really opens up a lot of possibilities. Have been in a trance with this one for the last two days.
Grazie apeSoft!!!
I'd have thought if a 'repair' has failed they'd be obliged to provide a replacement. Report them to Trading Standards - it's still in warranty so it's illegal to give you the brush-off.
Yep. Will get on to that one.
I don't have time to play with this atm (working on two pieces - and my rule is that if I want to play with a new synth I need to write a piece for it), but I'm fascinated by this matrix. Am I right in thinking that this is a way to feed audio from one granulator to another? Or to modulate different granulators?
ApeSoft is incredible. Haven't entered into the matrix yet myself. It sure does look cool though and I trust these guys know how to impress.
what does the new matrix do?
There was one simple dufus error I was making and couldn't get the matrix to work right. I wasn't wearing headphones and figured if I was routing stream 1 to stream 2, I'd be able to just hit the play button on stream 2 and see input from stream 1. What you have to do is put headphones on, then hit the mic input icon. If you hit it without headphones you'll just get feedback. If you have headphones on, it'll pick up the output of the stream you've routed to it.
Here's a reply I sent to someone else:
in ios 11 public beta, AUM can only see the main mix IAA output, the individual outs are missing
Thanks, Skip.
This calls for clear-headed video from ApeSoft, I think.
And this (made before this update) from @RedSkyLullaby is just beautiful.

@ExAsperis99 Yep, that is helpful. Lucky we got ol' Red around. Tx
Finally looked up the meaning of this. Accurate
Watch your ears in the matrix, feedback can be unexpected.
so - can we now route each sample and record the outputs as separate audio tracks?
I'm really obsessed with this new version of iDensity and it's Patch bay. I'm also not getting the individual stream outputs in AUM. Works fine for me in Auria Pro, but it also has the separate streams missing. I hope those come back, but for now... this thing is incredible to mess with complicated routings.
I've messed up with the feedback too. Sometimes it completely kills audio and have to relaunch if I route something wrong. So far, it's so freakin' awesome to just add/record a sample, adjust the heck out of it until it's just granularly delicious, stream that into another stream, add more fx and reverse, then send the second source to yet another stream, mix them all up into amazing soundscape compositions.
I get amazed with some new app every month or so, but this month the prize goes to iDensity for me. I love me some Borderlands, but I think iDensity just eclipsed it with this new Patch Bay.
