Well done. Get used to telling yourself that, it really helps.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
@ChrisG - I hear you, and I resemble your remarks. For me, this actually extends somewhat to the ipad as well, and I'm not exactly sure why. I certainly can't blame the tools available, as they are well beyond what I had available when I started making music using a desktop machine, and I produced full songs then. It may be that I keep getting distracted with new apps (had a similar experience going crazy with VSTs when they were newer). It also may be that my desktop studio is in its own room. I go there and get left alone, whereas with iOS I tend to work on the sofa, or wherever, and get pulled away as quickly as I get started.
I picked up Looptical a couple of days ago. Was in a similar boat to you (do I really need yet another?) But the videos looked good, the demo tracks are quite impressive, and and it seemed to be getting high marks from the community, so thought I'd try it. The workflow definitely sets it apart from the other studio apps I have (roughly same ones as you). Still learning it, but I think this may see quite a bit of use from me. I also like the sample-based approach. I'm more into rock/alternative/indie than dance/electronica/house, so I dig that not everything sounds synthesized. It may not be the sound I ultimately want but the samples are good and great for getting a sketch together. I think this will be even better once I brave the iOS 7 upgrade and can use the IAA features.
@MooCowMusic - nice job! A couple of requests, if I may... A sustain button for the keyboards, and a tremolo insert effect. I really like the multiple palm muting options for the guitar interface. Well done on that!
@PaulB I know, it works every time!![:( :(](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/frowning.png)
@SuperNiCd I was the same when VSTs were newer. Besides the ones I bought, I probably collected every single little free VST and VSTi I could find. But I eventually got that sorted out, and kinda "tailored" a setup that worked well for me in regards to the DAW itself, the VST effects and the right mix of sample/rompler and synth VSTi's.
So why not just use that DAW? Well, besides my midi gear being fried, a few years ago I started losing interest (read time, money etc) in producing music. So I completely stopped doing it. Until I "happened" to buy a 3GS iPhone, and I noticed all these awesome inexpensive little music apps started popping up. So I've been noodling around with music again on iOS since then. And while I can't say I'm actually getting a lot of music/tracks done yet, it is fun being along for the ride since tablets/phones is a new field that is growing really fast with new developers, new techniques/technologies and so on. But now I'm starting to kinda feel that pressure to actually get something done again, slap it on soundcloud, put it away in some project file, delete it, whatever just get it done. Anyway, it all definitely falls under the "1st world problems" category to say the least so whatever lol
@SuperNiCd -
Sustain Button: So, presumably a toggle that operates in the same way as a MIDI sustain pedal would? "On" = notes fade away slower. I'm thinking of implementing MIDI sustain pedals by having an additional Release setting in the ADSR for the instrument (which might be shown to the user as an additional slider for how much longer the sustain is), and the pedal toggles between the two. So technically I could have a screen button for this also at the top of the Single / Dual Keyboard screen. There's no space for any more UI on the Scale Piano, so I see this as an option for the piano key interfaces only. Good idea and goes in the ToDo list.
Tremolo Effect: I'd like to do this. A simple volume oscillating effect with a speed dial and maybe even linked to tempo would be quite easy to make. The reason it's not there is what I'd really like to do is a bit more of a Leslie effect, which is much more complex and I'm still reading up on. But failing the Leslie I can certainly add a Tremolo.
@MooCowMusic: On the sustain button, that's exactly it - mimic a real sustain pedal, perhaps minus the fact that you have to hold it down. More of a toggle. Actually what you're describing, if I understand correctly would be even more flexible than what I was originally thinking. Kind of like R1 and R2 knobs in the envelope, and you toggle between them with the sustain button? That's be great! On the traditional keyboard only would suit my needs.
A Leslie effect would also be great. I'm sure it's not so easy based on the fact that I've heard very few done well. Most just sound like a panning effect but fail to recreate the real deal with the Doppler effect nuisances. You could always have both. :-) Tremelo makes a nice addition for both guitar and electric piano.
Bought! Just barely scratched the surface, went through all the on screen tutorials, messed around a little with the piano, arp and mixer/fx. Loaded the wubwub demo song. So far I'm not regretting the purchase. Gonna try it out more tomorrow when I can find the time, seems like a lot of fun to be had in there.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Ok got stuck using a while longer lol. I do have a feature request, something I always make use of in other apps, and that's having a keyboard mode where you can scroll the keyboard up/down while holding a note/notes. I believe the only "transport" options right now are the arrows on top? Anyway, that's just something I noticed and missed having right away.
Ok gonna try stop messing around with it, getting late here.![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
If you go with the straight tremelo (and you orta, I say!), one feature I love on the boss tr2 tremelo pedal was that it offered a variable knob between square and triangle waves for the trem. Very very cool. Please 'be inspired' by it!

@MooCowMusic I think the Wheel Mode option feature is brilliant. Love the pitch/ modulation combo.
Just picked this up and must say that I really like what I have seen so far. Looking forward to delving deeper as time permits.
Thanks, @MooCowMusic for a well thought out app.
Thanks everyone for your comments!
Tremolo: Variable waves sounds interesting. Without experiencing it, I imagine that square waves sound very choppy and mechanical, triangles less so, but not as "natural" (if tremolos are natural) as a sine. So a variable Square/Tri basically adds more choppiness to the sound?
It allows more choppiness. The full triangle setting sounds pretty much like a standard guitar amp tremelo. Full square sounds fully chopped, like a keyed gate. Places in between sound sort of like you'd imagine but I don't know how put into words. Easy to test out with a synth like Sunrizer/Nlog/Magellan. Assign two LFOs to the amplitude, one triangle and one square, same speed and phase. Try them solo and then try mixing them.
Just bought this a few days ago and am really really impressed. Yes, I want more time signatures and poss tempo changes...but I love this way of building a song. I'm on a steep learning curve, but I'm using my ears and everything just works out of the box. Ipad 2 32 gb no problems yet. I haven't opened another DAW since buying looptical. Could this be The One?
Will now go and review it!
