Quick question about M Audio Oxygen 61
Does anyone use this or the 49, my midi main Midi controller has bit the dust sadly so I'm looking to replace quick and this is at a great price point for me, any help or advice would be cool beans
Comments
Hey Doug. I picked up an Oxygen 49 used a couple years ago and I love it. No issues so far and I love having the knobs and faders to midi assign.
That's great news, thanks
Haven't tired the oxygen, but I was playing around with a couple of midi keyboards in the store the other day and I was most impressed by the m-audio code 61. The action of the keys and the quality felt better than anything I tried.
I've got an old Axiom 49 that works quite well.
One thought - I don't know if the Axiom has the same keybed as the Oxygen, (and by no means do I have your keyboard proficiency), but compared to my old Korg Karma the MAudio keys feel a lot more "springy" and seem to have a bit more travel. I don't recall what you have been using but thought I'd throw that in, as the feel of one's axe is usually important!
Best of luck!
The keys on the Oxygen definitely have more of a "synth action" feel to them but not too springy in my opinion. Depends on personal preference I suppose.
Yeah, the synth action is OK for me, my last controller was a full 88 note Hammer Action keyboard but I have used others and it's all cool, my main concern was the connectivity to the iPad, plus I'll buy their sustain peddle which is very reasonably priced
Does the iPad power it OK?
I've got an iPad 4 and it powers it just fine. No external power needed.
Another big plus then, brilliant
For the record this is the model I have.

used to have an older Axiom 49, and traded it i. to get a new oxygen 49. love it. I really like the keys. perfect for synth.
Yeah I think the one I'm really drawn towards is the new Mark IV 49, I can get that at a really good price and I really need a keyboard that can do OK both for the piano reviews and the synths, my old one, although a full 88 note weighted keyboard did lack the pitch and mod wheels, and there is no way I can afford another full size piano, plus I never actually just play the onboard sounds, so for budget and it's connectivity and the full size keys this will do nicely
Doug - dunno what your budget is, but if you can find an 88-key, weighed key controller with pitch and mod wheels, I'm sure some folks here would help support you for it... I know I would do what I can.
Hi Dave, that's very kind of you to say but honestly people have already gone above and beyond with helping me out and honestly this will be great until I can get a bigger keyboard controller, actually it will be nice also to have the option to midi up the various controls too
