@syrupcore did you ever pull the salmon on this one? There's some dodgy musician bloke from around here (@iansainsbury) who's trying to separate me from what's left of my son's college fund for one of these things and he almost has me sold...

  • I have one and I love it!! I used it for FAWM 2020. It’s an interesting dynamic. I could stand across the room and control it with an android phone, Then switch to my iPad for mixing. Using the onboard DSP with the app is very cool. Also, they are still adding gradually to the app. Also put down my drums and bass With Lumbeats apps! Even cooler!

  • I didn’t like it. Partly that was down to the fact that you have to connect to the unit’s own Wi-Fi network, so you lose your internet connection. And partly because the didn’t offer anything over others DAWs/recorders, for me anyway.

What would you be using it for?

I accept no blame for other's fiscal irresponsibility. The Spire does one thing (record up to eight tracks of audio) well. Really well, in fact. Then again, I’ve heard people make impressive sounding vocal tracks with the mic on their iPhone. I fully accept the 'lifestyle gadget' label. It’s unnecessary, but it works, it makes me sound better than I would on my own, and it looks cool. Matt Smith's Doctor Who would own one. There, I said it.

  • Very happy with mine. Best to think of it as a highly portable multitrack recorder with extras.

Takes about 30 seconds to have it ready to record in a new location.

There’s been a lot of dsp added in recent updates and the onboard microphone is really good.

  • I have it and absolutely love it, capturing an idea with a few overdubs has never been so quick and sounding so good before .. and you can export everything to desktop for further tweaking or resampling parts of it very easily too

  • @cabo @BlueGreenSpiral @iansainsbury Thank you x3. Men stood at the cliff's edge often do not want saving, but instead a firm push.

  • I just noticed that there seems to be a new sort of subscription within the Spire app. What is this for? and why? It says "Pro Monthly" and "Pro Yearly" with a price tag in iTunes. What is this and what do you get? Couldn't find any info about that. Does anybody know?

just received an answer from the iZotope customer support:

"Spire Pro is our new subscription service for vocals. It adds personalized processing tailored to your voice which will make your vocal tracks crisp and consistent every time you record - and we have more great features on the horizon for Spire Pro users using technology that has made iZotope a leader in audio processing. The subscription is handled through the App Store just like most other apps.

Right now we have an intro offer to get Spire Pro for .99/month for your first 3 months. After that, it is $4.99/month or $29.99/year."

sounds good somehow, but not sure if I really want or need that

I still can't figure out how to get these subscriptions. Anybody got a clue or an idea how to do this?

edit: found out (during the recording / soundcheck process ~ not easy to find, but all good now), took the intro offer to test it out
