What if iOS apps could have NKS support....
Hate the idea of $pending that much on a somewhat basic controller, but it's sure nice looking.
How does this compare to BM3?
BM3 has obviously taken a lot of 'inspiration' from Maschine. I'd say BM3 is more like Maschine than the official iMaschine. But it's like it's little brother - so a bit like comparing GarageBand to Logic.
For me Maschine on the desktop is faster, and more logical to use than BM3, and works seamlessly with Komplete. Funny enough though I prefer the way the sampler works in BM3, they've really nailed that one.
BM3 and Maschine are the core of my workflow at the moment, and this new keyboard would take it into a whole new league, performance wise.
same price as before
Yeah, good deal considering the new features. My mate's fed up though, he bought the old one a few weeks ago.
I send the midi clock from the mpc to the iPad. Then use midi link sync so the mpc is the clock source for ableton link. I use an irig midi midi so midi can go both ways. The mpc can sequence iPad synths, or the iPad can send midi into the mpc, which then goes out to my hardware synths. The looper on the mpc is then used to record perfect loops, which then be assigned to a pad. I'm absolutely loving the mpc workflow. The swing you get on drums is great for house music.
Questions!
I realize this isn't entirely standalone, but it does seem like you could get a lot of work done without hooking up to a computer.
The NI website says it comes with the Maschine software as well as Komplete 11 Select. Which sounds pretty fantastic, considering all this is included for $599.
I'm kind of between computers (or just dragging my feet on replacing the desktop in my house), so I'd love to get this and work mostly offline. Usable?
Don't think so, but I might be wrong. My Mikro is just a controller - it came with Select and the Maschine DAW, but they're loaded onto the PC. They might have changed this though - the instrument 'preview' feature seems to suggest something is stored on the controllers now.
nope no chance, but it might be core midi compliant this time around having an audio interface. As you notice in all the videos they dont show the software they are running because its probably Maschine Studio 3.0 software. Im just hoping its class compliant so we can use the audio interface with the ipad and send midi cc messages. Hopefully we get a new iMaschine 3 and its compatible with the MK3 That would be heaven
I heard that it's Class Compliant from the video too... so My hopes are that it works with the iPad also
Maschine Software has Link now so hooking the iPad on the back and sampling it in sync will be AWESOME !
Great, he was a 'user' and inspired this beauty... Maybe NI needs to recruit some of the 'smart' iPadist here to update their iMaschine app.
Can you imagine an iPad workinging together with this beauty and controlling the Maschine software also?
Big disappointment for me not being able to use my Mikro with the iPad, but they're a good company, must be aware of the growing iOS music market so maybe one day...
I have been experimenting with Maschine 2.6.x Midi in and using the launchpad to trigger scenes, lock, etc... pretty powerful... what if there was an app for that with ( I guess they call it visual feedback) these knobs labeled etc....
BTW.. traded in my Mikro for a Jam... wowo...
So what are the estimates on the price drop for the MK2?
I'm still getting my head around the Mikro, but the scene triggering in the new one puts Maschine in the Ableton league for jamming.
I'd give it a couple of months for the bargains to turn up - I looked yesterday and prices were still high. You can buy a Mikro like mine for £80 though.
Seems they are no longer available for sale on NI's website..> @MonzoPro said:
Seems the Mikro does not do Lock (must have lock) ... I guess one must have 'Max for live' to do Lock..
Edit... Ok developers..... 'Export to Maschine' ..
Oh yeah, I can see lots of things my Mikro doesn't do - the Ableton comment was directed towards the new ones, which look like great fun.
Thanks for the comparison!
Ok guys, so I got my Maschine MK3 earlier than expected with 2 days
Guess what I first did?
Connected it to the iPad. The Audio card works like magic, BUT unfortunately no midi... it needs drivers. Sad day for humanity.
Yeah it's a pain, I've tried many times to get my Mikro to work with the iPad, with no success. It'd be perfect for BM3...
Just got the Komplete Kontrol S61 Mk2, damn, this thing is a beast! Couldn’t be happier, almost bought a Mk1 a few weeks ago before the announcement. I’ll have to try midi mode with iPad too...
Hi @HandOfEmpty . I'm thinking of getting a NI Kontrol and Ultimate during the Black Friday sale. Are you still really happy with it a month after purchase? Can you tell me how well it works as a controller for non-Komplete apps, like Model 15, Animoog, VirSyn apps, Auria Pro, BM3, etc. I don't hear so much about this keyboard / software from users in our AF community here. I guess most people just use the Impulse or Launchkey or Advance boards. I'd love to hear your feedback if you get a chance. Thanks!
That’s me. I love the S61 Mk2. For Komplete instruments, there’s nothing like it. It’s amazing. I haven’t used it very much with iOS because the Komplete integration is so compelling in and of itself. I have an iConnectivity Audio 4+, so I have my laptop and an iPad hooked up to it at the same time. With that setup, it’s pretty easy to set up USB midi routing to the iPad in Ableton. As you probably know, the arp, scale modes and all of the best features of the keyboard aren’t set up to play well with non NI software, Apparently there’s a workaround using Ableton but I haven’t tried it. So for iOS, it’s basically an expensive midi controller with a bunch of assignable knobs. The keys feel amazing, so that’s a major plus. Makes Zeeon feel like an absolute beast. Haven’t tried it without an interface and Ableton in between. Reallly it’s made for NI Komplete and a computer, so if you’re mainly getting it for that, you’ll likely be very happy with it. When connected to iOS, it’s pretty basic, but the Fatar keybed feels great for simple midi keyboard stuff, a massive leap over the iRig keys that I had been using. Hope this is useful.
