Thanks! I'll turn the reverb off and save CPU. Now my poor AIr 1 needs power management more than ever :|

Cheap reverb OFF means I have the convocation reverb on?

Should I turn on cheap reverb in settings?

No. If no internal pattern is playing, most of the cpu load is caused by the convolution reverb of the kit.

  • edited September 2017

“Cheap reverb” means a lower-cpu-load version of the convolution reverb at the cost of some “tail” in the reverb (shortened impulse response). “No room” as selected reverb on the kit (in Kit view) means reverb off, which should result in reduction of cpu load.

  • Wow thanks!!! This app is truly deep!
Got a great pattern going and it's just such a beautiful thing to hear the sound quality.

Guys can anyone test if DPP sync starts inside AUM? I can get it to sync start anymore and it used to for sure. Ableton Link is on on both.

Sorry, not sure what you mean? Load DDP up in AUM and use AUM play button to start DPP?

Right. Haven't used it that way as I tend to Link stuff up and bring them in with the channel sliders. Will have a play tonight though.

Anyone using DPP in Beatmaker 3? In BM3.0.2 and 3.0.3 I am loading individual DPP outputs as IAA but in the BM3 Midi output options only "DPP audiobus midi device" is available.

Any future plans to somehow implement AUv3 for Drum Perfect Pro?

  • The developers have said that among new features in the upcoming update each of the eight (or 16?) sample slots will be velocity sensitive rather than the linear interpolation method. I hope it is optional as the linear method is extremely effective and low on resource demand. Here are some brief videos explaining various features of the current version.

  • @ampapps: don’t worry, the present scheme will remain the default. However, the new version will offer more flexible sample playback options: it will be possible to have up to 8 velocity levels (with interpolation in between!) or up to 10 different sample groups in a single instrument, each of which groups can be individually triggered by drum strokes in the pattern (present version only has left/right sample groups). The level of crossfade in the interpolation between samples can be set per sample group. So, a lot of flexibility, but you won’t need to use it ;-)

  • @AmpApps Dude - I LOVE your videos and have watched all the DPP ones you put up. The only reason I actually understand how DPP works is due to your vids, so thanks for that.

@Marinus Any idea when the update will drop? I just built up 5 or so kits in DPP, and I think I may need to redo/re-think the approach I took if the layering options are changing.

  • @Marinus Any plans to make the app universal? It would be great to have it on iPhone so I could enjoy it everywhere! :)

Well, as I said, the kits will keep working like before, but they could be made way more flexible. We hope to be able to release the update in the next two months.

No, not the full ipad app as it is now.

Oh, what a shame. :( Thanks for the info! :)

Not yet for the upcoming update. But we will consider it for sure.

  • I have a yamaha DTX multi 12 that I use as a midi controller for software on my mac, currently BFD3. I have no plans for recording, I just like having different sound choices than what’s built in. I was wondering if I could use DPP in this manner? Connect my DTX 12, load kit and start playing?

    I expect that to work.

  • I think that Drumperfect Pro is not only the best drum app, it's one of the best music apps you can buy. I believed in it so much I started a video series on YouTube.

    https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC1-_DskaO-0QtQorVwyPuwg

Ultimately though, I found it too hard to use, and sought out other solutions for drums. And when I found them, I abandoned my YouTube series.

This is just me. I am a dummy, and lazy too. You'll probably have no issues.

So that's the only con I can give. But I think it's worth mentioning, If you are willing to take the time, it is well worth it.

Reid - your videos were incredibly helpful for me learning the ins and outs of DPP.

This app didn't really open up for me until I bought my Keith McMillen BopPad. I was able to use DPP as a brain for my "kit" and it has been extremely stable and reliable and encouraged me to dive deeper.

DPP can do it all if you're willing to take the time, but it is DEFINITELY not for the faint of heart.

  • Yeah, exactly what happened to me. Nutjit reallybis a rewear see to those that dig deep.

I think if they did a noob and advanc d option where the app hides all the advanced stuff and shows the basic only, that would help a lot of people on the fence to jump in. The allow the advanced mode to be selected once the user has dug deeper and wants more advanced options.

To be completely honest, a very nice guy who saw some of my DrumPerfect jottings here wrote to me on this forum and talked to me about EZDrummer on the Desktop. We corresponded for awhile and he explained to me what it was and how it worked. I do some things on my iPad and some things on my computer, so I thought "why not?" So I got it, was disappointed, and that led me to Addictive Drums, which is what I use today. I also really like Groove Monkee MIDI patterns, which would work great in Drum Perfect, once you set up a kit for them. (They come mapped for Auria's Lyra).

It has been my observation in the desktop world, that developers have discovered that what sells the most is "EZ." Toontrack is an industry leader with this approach, with their EZDrummer, EZKeys, and EZMix line. Presonus's Studio One is a fast-growing DAW and the first thing everybody says about it is how intuitive it is to use--nobody says it is more full-featured than Cubase or Logic.

And I think it's like that in iOS. Some of us like to work with relatively simple synths or drum machines that have simple, intuitive UI (Luis Martinez apps, Patterning, DM1, Drumjam, etc) And some of us like to take advantage of more powerful tools like DrumPerfect.

This is the dilemma for developers and for us as consumers. But IMHO it doesn't work for developers to try to guess what people will want. I think that developers create the apps that they want to use themselves, and that's how it should be. We should all be very grateful to all of them, and I salute @Marinus because I have gotten a LOT of enjoyment out of DrumPerfect Pro. It is a brilliant app.
