Sonic Port VX & Midi Controller

Hey guys
Is there any way to have both the Sonic Port VX and a midi controller both hooked up to an iPad at the same time? Really appreciate any ideas.

Comments

  • I think you're entering a powered hub territory. Mpk mini has an exceptionally low power draw but I doubt an iPad will give enough juice for both to run stably.

  • So I don't have to use the lightning cable but just the USB cable? If I use a powered hub?

    Thnks bro.

  • As far as I remember you just plug a powered hub into the CCK and providing the hub has more than one USB slot you plug ....

Ah shit, just occurred to me that sonic port has its own lightning cable. Mmmm in that case I wouldn't know. The method I was trying to explain above works when you have both audio and midi interfaces using a standard USB cable.

Sorry, not sure I can help but would be interested if anyone else has any ideas.

  • The regular Sonic Port only has a Lightning cable. The VX also has USB, so you should be good. And if you want to power iPad, too, you’ll need to add the powered usb camera adapter.

  • Man now I can't wait to get home to try this out. Was googling and it may work by using the VX's USB port cable to USB hub to CCK3 to iPad. Can anyone try this the waiting is killing me. :o

You shouldn't have any problem with this. That's the method many of use use for standard USB audio interfaces that are "class-compliant"

  • Thanks!
I wondered if the iPad powers my VX no problems directly it should power it also when connected to cck right?

As far as I know the VX can be used as a normal usb interface. I'm not sure if you can use the usb port on it, which is actually meant to power your i-device - but it could be possible. If your where using the vx as a normal usb-interface in combination with the cck3 you can power your i-device through the cck3, which has a lightning input, specially made for this.I think in that case you have to use the usb-a to usb-mini-cable, which comes with the vx. I would strongly suggest buying the cck3 and not it's unpowered counterpart, in any case - it is far more versatile, because of the possibility to load your i-device, regardless wich kind of usb-interface you connect to it.

edit; I took a look into the manual - when I've understood it in the right way you can connect a MAC (in this a case also an i-device with the cck3 and a powered hub, connected to it) with the usb-a to mini-usb cable, which comes with your VX)

I think, in this case you have to power you device with the CCK3 and no more via the VX.

edit2: In short words: I think, as soon as you connect a CCK with an usb-hub it is no more possible to power your i-device via the VX - instead you have to use the lightning input of the CCK3.

  • Thanks guys I can confirm the Sonic Port VX does work via the provided USB port and cable when connected to a cheap unpowered USB hub which is then connected to the Apple CCK3 powered by the iPads lightning cable.

I had my midi controller also connected to the Unpowered USB hub in the above setup and all worked like a charm! No power issues at all!
