App Launch Issues: HOW LONG DOES DEV HAVE TO FIX?
Before you feel the app is bunk?
For instance, an app comes out with great fanfare. Ok, or not.
People buy the app.
There are multiple issues, some limiting functions others just annoying. Some crashes, or things don't do what they are supposed to.
How long do you personally give before you write off the app as a "miss" not a "hit".
Is it wrong to expect that an app that a person buys from the Apple store is working like it supposed to within a certain amount of time?
Not many other goods and services are like this to my knowledge. Where you actually buy a defective product or one with manufacturer flaws or incomplete and then need to wait for the company to hopefully fix or complete it.
I personally am generous I feel. I give a new app from an individual 8 weeks.
If it is a little more popular company and app that has been hyped, I really start to mentally have less interest or faith in the app after like 4-6 weeks. Tops.
I have found that if the company's workers have not figured it out by then, it is probably going to be a pain in the ass for the life of the app.
At that time I feel a developer or company should publicly address the customers and discuss the actual truths of what people are experiencing and if they really have an idea how to fix it. Otherwise, people may waste time on an app that never really works.
If after 2 months shit is still constantly messed up, I disregard the app and find an alternative to what I had planned for it.
I am not calling any company or app out by name. So, please respectfully not do so.
This is about a perspective and mindset, not an app or company specific orientated discussion. It is about policy, practice, and expectations.

It depends on the app - some are quite complex like BM3, so I'm giving it about a year (it works, but I think in year's time it will be a much better experience). If it's a synth, I guess I would give it a couple of months to have the major issues sorted out - crashes and bad bugs.
Part of the problem is that the market also wants 'relatively' low cost. Low cost + low sales figures = low support usually.
I don't think limiting functions and crashes are comparable
Sure there are apps i wish had a certain feature but if it wasn't promised, then i don't see an issue with it never arriving
Crashes on the other hand should be addressed asap but it depends on the severity of the bugs. If it's only when i'm pressing button combinations like i'm entering a cheat code on a mega drive then it's no big deal
Regardless of how long you want to give it, if there's an issue with an app you have 14 days to make your decision whether or not to keep it, after which it's academic as you're stuck with it.
If I buy an app that doesn't work as advertised due to a bug or misrepresnetation, I'll either cross my fingers and hope it's sorted (if it's a dev I already know and trust), or I'll quiz them and see if they're going to do so. In the case of the last three apps I bought - two didn't work as advertised, I quizzed the devs and they confirmend they wouldn't be updating or fixing the issues I'd reported, so I refunded them. The other (I'll name it as it's a positive comment), BM3, had so much promise that despite the bugs I decided to hold on and trust they'd be fixed - and they were.
If things play up or get abandoned after that then I'm generally not that bothered as I've probably had my moneys worth of fun by then.
I do not think this can be over stated.
I think this is still growing pains. In the grand scheme of things the platform is young. I think once there is a big enough scale to support the current prices things will get better. I do think the price needs to go up a little but I don't think it needs to get up to the price of what the hardware equivalent is or even what the desktop stuff costs and yet it needs to be more then candy crush. But really where the numbers really need to grow is on the number of people using the platform. The only way that will happen is if we get our friends on the bandwagon.

A big part of the problem is also users, not only do they assume that something is broken or doesn't work because they don't know how to do or use it, but some even give negative reviews based ipon their own stupidity.
So how much time do they get, forever if they are showing a willingness to fix and support.
Software with no bugs/issues is about as common as a dog that speaks English.

Patience is a virtue.
I get it I guess.
By that time, the window of my interest and an app that can replace that and work properly will probably have filled that app need at that point.
At the rate at which apps come out, a year is a curve which an app would certainly struggle to assume a credible place in the market.
I know, exceptions will happen.
This is all conjecture and opinion on my part.

Understood, but any app as complex as BM3 is going to have its growing pains which might be worth the patience. The way I see it, any DAW that comes out won't really be complete, so it will be offered at a sale price for early adopters (check). Then after it's issues are sorted out, it gets another bump in hype and is sold at full price. Early adopters are happy and late adopters see the value of a more functional app (the devs hope).

If an app isn't refunded within 14 days of purchase there is no turning back, the cash is gone...
...If the developer is responsive to communication with a positive mindset I give them a go!

Merely opening the plastic around a Windows OS DVD apparently invokes an EULA whereby we agree to accepting the product as is, with the implication that if it fucks up, it's entirely our fault for agreeing to use it!
Imagine if washing machines came with more than 200 faults when brand new, and the manufacturer tried to get away with saying if it didn't work as advertised it was the customer's own fault for taking delivery!
As for apps, my patience depends on the complexity of the app, how vital it is to my workflow, and what the developer has been like before. One recent complex app I bought and have hardly touched. I can wait until a few updates down the line, when I'll enjoy it more. Other smaller apps arrive very nearly there, and usually get their bugs squashed soon enough. Something I bought very recently was updated, and the update broke it. Now the developer isn't responding, so my patience is running down. Another well known developer has lost my custom due to releasing a series of sub-standard apps, IMHO. But most do a great job, and deserve a little slack.
It is like buying a warm jumper that had a hole you haven't noticed on the day of purchase. Your friends always tell you how great it looks on you and it is warm and fits you well. You could go back to the shop and swap it for another one but you got it on sale, end of stock etc. What do you do?
A. Take it back (refund) and look for another one with similar specs but forever dream of that thing you can never have again
B. Keep the hole (ignore defects), appreciate other positive aspects or...
C. Mend (workaround) the hole and have it all, not quite perfect but all in all....
