The USB TO HOST is a great invention. Even some keyboards can record their own sounds into the iPad (44.1kHz, 16bit, stereo).
I didn't know it was supposed to be hard. I have an ancient 1st generation Oxygen 61 (USB 1.1!). The first thing I did when I got my iPad Pro 12.9 and the lightning CCK was plug it in. Worked right off the bat.
