Best app to slow speed a song?

Bit of daft question from me as ever. When I was young some record players had 16rpm. By chance a friend and myself played Donna Summers ‘I Feel Love’ at that speed and at the time it blew our minds. I want to relive that and see if it still sounds as good. The 12” single of ‘I Feel Love” plays at 33rpm not the usual 45rpm so I can’t slow it down on my record player. Is there an app in which I could import the track and slow it down - possibly up to 50% and has good sound quality? I may well have one already but nothing jumps to mind.

  • Another fan of slowed down songs here--my buddies and I used to play records slowed down for fun; even made a mixtape called 45s on 33 once! My recollection is that audiostretch won't quite get what you're looking for as it maintains the pitch as it slows down--maybe the loop playback mode in Samplr or something similar?> @Lurcher said:

  • Vanilla Fudge's entire band concept was to take hits and play them real slow.

  • You can do it in Auria if you have it!

  • audiostretch is really fun for playing with audio speed and pitch

  • Paulstretch is awesome but it doesn't lower the pitch incrementally as it slows down like a record player does. You need some kind of turntable or tape emulator which will do that when slowed down--that's why I'm thinking Samplr--if you slow down the temp while in loop mode, the pitch goes down too. Not sure if it can accommodate a song-length sample tho. There's gotta be a more obvious app I'm not thinking of.

  • Anytune Pro+ is great, but has lots of other features for practising also, so it could be overkill for your needs?

  • You can take down both the speed and pitch in Twisted Wave or Beat Time.

  • Thanks for the ideas everyone will have to look into some of these options. I even tried to find a 16rpm record deck but 33, 45 & 78 seem to be the only options out there.

  • Nanostudio.:) Just sample it into Eden and then play any key you like lower than middle C. It'll get slower and slower the lower you go.

Oh, Eden is mono. Sample to the TRG for stereo and you can transpose it down up to two octaves (already slower than 45:33). If you want it even slower, transpose it down and resample it to another pad and get another two octaves. Rinse and repeat.

Also, it does other stuff. BUT it'll die when you upgrade to iOS 11. If you plan to upgrade, perhaps Samplr? Think that'll go down three octaves.

Ns also has a 3:30 or so sampling limit. Maybe not the best tool for the job of you just want to hear entire songs pitched down. Not sure the limit on Samplr.

Big ups for Anytune Pro+ from me. Use it quite a lot. Jam player is another though I believe we'll be losing it to the ios11 purge.

  • Yamaha Chord Tracker will do this, and give you the chords. Plus it's free.

  • Djay 2 from Algoriddim is great for this, plus you get the virtual turntable to complete the experience! I have the paid for Djay 2 app, I don't know what the limits are on the lite version but you can have a look for free...

  • Almost any of the apesoft granular stuff. Dunno about max sample length tho

  • It's much easier and faster to do something like this on a computer rather than an iOS device. Use Audacity. Free and it works.

That may be true, but that's not the OP's request.

  • I think most turntable-style apps can slow the music down. I have DJ 2 by Algiriddim and you can slow to 50% and keep the pitch normal or has it based on speed.

I have some of the apesoft stuff but bearing in mind the song is around 8mins long I think it’s probably pushing it. Am tempted to look at the DJ apps as I’m sure I can get a lot of new fun out of these.

In Auria, how do I go about slowing down an audio track?

  • Auria, Cubasis, Beatmaker 3, so on and so forth.

Djay Pro is a lot of fun, endless mixing if you have a Spotify account.

I often use it just to surf the matching recommendations and force myself out of the usual comfort zone.

  • Cubasis for a powerful solution or djay 2

Audiostretch maintains the pitch as you slow it down but you can change the pitch also, I like that you can also use video.
