Will older IAA synths be updated to AU or will devs just move onto new synths
Is it likely that most developers will update their synths to AU or is the programming too much work for the financial return?
And if so does that mean that developers will ‘abandon’ older IAA apps and just focus on making new AU ones ?

Some will, some won’t
Lol thanks for that!
Guess was more curious to know whether it’s worth their while financially / timewise to do it to not. I’m no developer so no idea how these things work.
I can't imagine it being financially viable to update old synths in most cases, given the appstore economy. I'm sure some are going to do it anyway though
Here’s some logical thought then:
Some apps are probably not going to get much of a boost to sales by adding AU. This may make it uneconomical to spare the time to do the work.
Some apps will be easier than others to convert due to the graphics already chosen, some will need more work than others.
Some apps make their money by promoting sound packs. These apps may make more money in sales of I.A.P’s if they add an AU extension. For example, I bought more BeatHawk sounds when they added AU. I no longer use the app standalone, so would not have invested further without AU.
Adding AU to some apps, may take valuable resources in time away from developing new product.
Sometimes, it’s just easier to throw away an old product and start again!
From a commercial standpoint -
If they want to do it as the same app then they need to do it for free....if they want to get paid for doing it then they will need to create a new app.....
From a technical standpoint -
AU is restricted in its RAM useage more than IAA so some just won't be able to....
The new MIDI OUT for AU and Full screen support will mean that some that couldn't previously do AU will now be able to..
It is purely a waiting game to find the answer !
Ok. Just wondered if they’d make more sales and get more of a return by updating older synths to the newer standards or just starting afresh. Guess it depends on individual circumstances of each company, how big they are and resources etc.

Gotcha. Makes sense
somedeveloper should made AUv3 plugin capable work as IAA host
it will be ultimate solution for old synth apps without AU support...
Example: yonac has said making Galileo AU would require a complete rewrite, so it doesn’t make financial sense for them. But maybe in the future they’ll make a completely new app with AU.
@ikmultimedia has said AU will be coming to their apps at some point.
And, there’s been rumors of animoog getting AU this fall.
Wow, animoog?
I would like Propellerheads Thor Polyphonic Synth to be AUv3 compatible...
But, If The Props are in the making of Reason Mobile, we certainly will be able to layer Thor that way...
Yeah, I'd love to see Animoog as an AU. Also Thor. I just wish more of these AUs would include arps amd sequencers.
