How to keep Alchemy, other 32-bit apps around when upgrading to iOS 11?

Hello,

I am interested to upgrade my iPad Air 1 to iOS 11, but I would like to keep access to Alchemy and other apps which won't run on iOS 11. I assume there are many others trying to accomplish the same thing. Does the following make sense?

  1. Load Alchemy and any other apps which won't survive the upgrade to my current iPad
  2. Backup the iPad using iTunes
  3. Load Alchemy and any other apps which won't survive to my kids' iPad 2, which won't be upgrading to iOS 11

I could then upgrade my current iPad Air 1 to iOS 11, knowing that Alchemy, etc. are safe on an older iPad. If I end up buying a new iPad in the next few months, I could restore my current iPad from the backup with Alchemy, so that I would have it running on a faster device.

Any problems with this? Should this work if I upgrade iTunes on my Windows system, since I gather they are removing to manage apps from within the program?

Thanks,
Michael

P.S. Is there a list of apps like Alchemy which have not been updated?

Your iPad Air will probably be on iOS 10 while your iPad 2 will be on ios9 I don’t think it’s possible to restore a backup from a later version of iOS to an iPad running an earlier version.
Installing Alchemy on the kids iPad also probably won’t give you the iaps
