synthQ Fall Equinox Sale (40% off)

FYI: I've put synthQ on sale (40% off) until the 24th. In other news I'm almost done with an update that addresses LINK synchronization issues, as well as a bunch of other bugfixes related to the sequencer. There will be more new presets in the update as well.

Here's a little demo video I recorded using iOS 11's new screen recording feature:

Cheers!

Everyone, keep in mind, @billjobs_in_space allowed his samples to be used in the exploitation and abuse of a stuffed monkey.

The monkey has a name. It is Cornelius.

If you look deep in Cornelius' eyes, you will see his almost human... he is so much like us. I will not tolerate this any longer.

The best revenge is to buy SynthQ, and use it to write songs of freedom about Cornelius.

    We will overAum!

  • Nice. This one had passed me by. So I should pick up 76 Synthesizer at the same time? It certainly looks the biz.

  • Great news - I'm enjoying the app.

    First feedback:

    I HATE In-App documentation.
    Any chance for a PDF?

Here's a link to all the PDFs for the documentation:

    Second feedback:

It shows up in AudioBus MIDI Receiver panel, good.
As it has a sequencer, MIDI Send would be great :)

Yes, I need to add that for the next update. Stay tuned!

  • @billjobs_in_space just pickup SynthQ. Thanks. Is 76 Synthesizer iOS 11 compatible? Any pending updates for that one? Thanks again!

    Thanks!!!

  • This synth is a candy-colored monster.
    Get it!

  • Lots of sale going on at the moment, probably everything to do with iOS 11 launch

  • Just bought it, thanks for the sale!

  • Love it... How about scales?

How did you get the touch circle indicators on the iOS11 screen recorder?

  • It sounds great- but I find playing it a touch confusing. In particular the XY pads and keys. And also the modulation options. I don't feel that it is particularly user friendly- esp for newcomers to the field.
I seem to remember more tutorial videos being promised a while ago- which did not arrive- but perhaps I am mistaken. I would sure like to see some more. I bought it a while ago when it first arrived - but ditched it due to this problem- and I am pretty sure I am not alone. There has not been much talk of it on the forum- but I think this is largely due to the above as I mentioned.
The sounds it can produce are top notch- it would sit proudly beside my other good Groovebox type apps- if only I could have a better understanding of how to use it.

Normally, I’d say 76 Synth is a hidden gem, but it looks like it’s not working completely on ios11. Anyone else with 76 Synth, can you confirm it’s not working correctly? I can’t get to the second screen.

EDIT: never mind, it’s working fine! I forgot you have to use 2 fingers to slide over to second panel. Well worth it and can also be used as an effect.

  • That's a lot of unread emails. ;)

    Must resist another toy ...

  • Thanks to everyone who picked up a copy!

Are you referring to a feature for the keyboard disabling certain notes to be able to play specific scales? You can do that in 76 but there were no plans to implement it for SQ as of yet. Might be interesting.

For that I'm using a 3rd party library called Touchposé that I turn on when making demo videos.

Thanks for your support! As @skiphunt pointed out, 76 is compatible with iOS 11. There's nothing new planned for 76 at the moment, however if you find any serious issues that need to be looked at please let me know.

That's a completely fair criticism— and I've heard similar things from a lot of other people I've shown the project to as well. I have spent a lot of time making this a very capable synth for my own personal use as well as for other synth-heads, but I know that the interface is daunting for most people (especially beginners). I did promise some videos a while back, but unfortunately I became occupied with other projects so I wasn't able to get around to making them. This is why I'm very happy about the new screen recording feature in iOS 11, I think after I finish this next update I'm going to concentrate my efforts on making short, concise tutorials that explain all of the features that may have gone over people's heads beforehand.

  • That is good to hear- I look forward to their arrival.
One thing I have also been curious about- do you ever plan to introduce automation to the app? I am guessing that it would not be possible due to the way it is structured- but then if it was possible it would really give it the old warp factor in terms of popularity.

  • Automation is something that I have thought about— it wasn't really a feasible feature for this app until the arrival of the sequencer, just to have a timing base. If I were to implement it it would probably be similar to how it's done in Elastic Drums; you would be able to record control movements in real-time and then they would be played back while the sequencer plays. It would open up the sonic possibilities 100% so it is something I would definitely like to have, I just need to finish up what's already in the pipeline for this project at the moment.

How do you get SynthQ working in the FX slot of AUM? I can’t get any sound.

By adding a vocoder and fx module and turning up dry and mix to full one.

That is correct — but I'm changing this for the next update since it doesn't work quite like I want. You should be able to hear the filtered audio when you turn the dry level up (currently you need the mix fader to be non-zero for it to work). Also I'm increasing the volume of the filtered signal, this was set low initially to avoid feedback from the microphone, but I think it's too quiet.

  • The build for update 1.514 has been uploaded to the App Store. I'll make a new thread when it's out!
