I went back to it after posting and saw where to set in xequence and got it playing. Then took me a sec further to realize the piano roll was inside each the the “bars” and I wasn’t actually arranging steps with those bars.
Was playing with BM3 and Modstep earlier and my brain was still zooming in and out at too many different levels.
Thanks for the nudges, this one seems good so far
👍 Great.
@SevenSystems : Xequence isn’t updating its play state in the AB3 palette in some cases. When I press the Xeq play icon in the palette, it doesn’t switch to pause.
Yes, sorry, known issue. There seems to be a communication problem between Xeq and AB sometimes, and I haven't yet been able to figure it out.
Sounds like my wife and I.
I'm trying to get a sense of how the sequencing of patterns works in Xequence. It seems like patterns/clips are called "parts" in the manual. Can "parts" be any length? How does looping of patterns over the timeline work? Can looped clips/parts be expanded on the timeline by dragging ala Ableton?
Just a little notice here: I’ve just got a bug report in, and for anyone who might have been hit by it, here’s a workaround:
When one of the “Key Position To Controller Value” modes is engaged on the Keyboard screen, "Audition edits" is enabled, and you select notes in the Pianoroll editor by tapping, you might get an error message ("A problem has occurred in the app").
The workaround is to either switch all controllers back to normal slider ("Up/Down arrow") mode, or to turn off "Audition edits".
Fix will be issued this week if I can defeat Apple's Two Factor Authentication.
that got me too trying to do an update!!
most underrated sequencer on iOS!
just discovered it and I'm blown away:)
( doesnt look like much but is packed under the hood it seems !:)
big love for this one. thanks SevenSystems!!!!
Yep, getting to know it a little more.. it’s essential..
Should be Auv3...
No bother, you're very welcome
I already thought I went quite far in the app description in expressing that the good stuff is in the "guts"... but maybe I should add "Game Changer" somewhere
I love the very first comment in this thread, because apparently I really needed another MIDI sequencer. Thank you to Seven Systems-!
This is already haunting me in my sleep!
However I've just revisited the "Width" slider and added a bit of logarithmic scaling and fine-tuned the sensitivity. Much better now!
@SevenSystems OK. I never really have. Not properly properly have. This far in, where would you suggest a Memorial Day slowcoach start? Manual? Particular vid?
It's never too late
I personally think it's best to just get the app and dive in. It's very intuitive and follows many standard DAW conventions, so you should be up and running quite quickly. All non-obvious buttons/features have tooltips the first time you use them, so that a kind of "built-in automatic manual". There's also the "proper" manual available here:
http://seven.systems/en/apps/xequence/overview/
Another good resource are the videos from @gmslayton.
There's also many active users here, and you can of course just ask away in this thread.
@SevenSystems Thank you so much. I have Mitch's stuff bookmarked, but just wanted to check in case the horse's mouth would suggest a different bit to chew on at this point in the proceedings.
Hey @SevenSystems! How're you doing?
Tried searching to no success....
When I drag a part around in the Arrange view, It always snaps to 1 bar?
Hey, yes that's true, the arranger grid is fixed to whole bars in Xequence. However, Xequence 2 is right around the corner (at least in my conservative time measurement system), and will have a freely adjustable grid for the arranger (including "Auto" mode!)
Ok!
Thanks, you devilish devil

Don't tempt me on a friday!
@SevenSystems : Will I be able to mix time signatures in Xequence 2? Say a single bar of 3/4 within a song of 4/4? Sorry, so know I’ve been asking this same question for eons now, lol.
Haha, no need to feel sorry. I feel sorry for having to say yet again that the answer is still no
There's a multitude of major improvements and new features in Xequence 2, but tempo/timesig track is still not on the list. However, for "robotic" musicians like myself
who stay in fixed tempo and time, Xequence 2 will be quite great
Ok, thanks... Darn it! Lol
So when do I get to update my profile pic? 😀
Haha. Yes, I have been a huge fan of your profile pic since day one, obviously!
@SevenSystems sorry to bother again... but sometimes I feel like a noob
I was trying to setup Xequence + StepPolyArp like your guide suggests.
But then I created two instruments, one with notes I wrote in Xequence, which send midi to SPA, which arpegiates it and record to track 2 / instrument 2, which is directed to a synth.
Does this make sense and would be a correct way to record this midi?
Trying to figure out how to connect stuff like Rozeta, Quantum, etc. to Xequence
But I had the impression the recorded data from SPA was offset a bit in the grid
I am a noob
I'm just lying to myself
