iPad Pro ram
I was thinking the other day since having occasional audio issues with BM3 on my new iPad Pro that what if Apple put only 2GB in some of the new 2017 iPad Pro models. We know that Apple are quiet about what ram is in the iPads and iPhones so it is feasible they could get away with sticking just 2GB ram instead of 4GB in some of the models. Maybe I am sounding paranoid but it has got me thinking.
Comments
Paranoid. They can’t do that, it would be a fraud. I think it is more about performance optimization in BM3.
I agree with mschenkel.it, Apple have their faults but are not in the business of outright fraud. AFAIK, all the current Pro’s have 4gb RAM. I’ve never seen a review where anyone has proved differently.
If that is the case then does anyone know how to optimise BM3 on the new iPad Pros?
I think it is more on dev side this one. What kind of issues are you having?
I have some visual issues with BM3 in just one project but I suspect the issue is a 40mb sample sliced over 64 pads.
Anyway usual routine like reboot, raise latency, close bkg apps could help. Maybe.
The issues I am having is only on my new iPad Pro 12.9. The issue is that when I am playing audio samples on the pads on a bank the audio occasionally breaks up. This happens on the built in speakers on the iPad Pro.
I don't have this issue on my old iPad Pro 9.7 playing the same bank on BM3. It's just an issue on my new 2017 iPad Pro 12.9. This is strange because my old iPad Pro 9.7 only runs 2GB ram while my new iPad Pro 12.9 is supposed to run 4GB ram.
3.9 GB RAM no shortage here, iPad Pro 10.5 and yes I have the latency and broken sound problems.
Only on BM3 or other apps as well?
IMO is some kind of new CPU bottleneck but I dunno shit
I think you were supposed to have quoted me instead of knewspeak. Anyway, Yeah only BM3 has the issue. I tried a big project on Gadget and the iPad Pro 12.9 handles it well.
I seem to recall seeing a thread here about latest Pro having audio glitches in general...?
As I’ve mentioned before, I’m thankfully not having these issues with my 10.5 Pro, so I can’t test this theory, but I wonder if some of the issues some have reported with the Pros can be traced to the “ProMotion” 120Hz to 60hz switching on the fly? Something to do with quickly changing the allocation of ram and/or not immediately freeing it back up after the “ProMotion” switching is finished... Leaving some memory out there hanging and fragmented?
I believe you can turn off the 120Hz and force 60Hz all the time. I’d try this myself, but I'm not able to recreate the issues others describe.
Maybe it’s not related since I think some with last year's pro have mentioned it too, and those are all 60Hz only.
I’ve had a good experience with using the new 10.5 Pro using Affinity Photo. Hasn’t crashed on me in weeks, but others with the new 10.5 are still reporting Affinity crashing issues even after iOS11. Makes me wonder if all Pro machines are not completely manufactured identical in spec and/components used?
How do I switch ProMotion off in the settings?
I don’t think you can switch it off, but you can force 60Hz I believe. I don’t know if this kills the “ProMotion” switching routines, but you can go to settings, accessibility, display accommodations, limit frame rate. This supposedly restricts the display to 60fps.
Yes, I've seen it mentioned here and over at the Auria forum too.
