  • Normally $7.99, now Universal at $4.99.

"Drawing" seems not much different than grid-based sequencers. You can quantize or not.

Has Link which appeals to a lot of people.

I'm on the fence. Don't need it but looks fun plus you can import samples.

I've never worked it hard enough to incorporate it into produced tracks, but it is super fun.

  • Awesome! I love fun apps

Bought it at app launch. Fun for an hour or so. It became boring. More kiddie stuff, although could think kids will also rapidly become bored. My idea too high priced for what it delivers $0.99 would be a nice price. btw a much better app (value for money) be the same devs is Elastic Drums, and has the same price as this one at the moment. If you haven't got ED this is your chance instead of throwing money at this boring app.

Disagree. ED is an absolute steal at almost any price — it is remarkably . But $4.99 is not bad for FluxPad. There's nothing quite like it on iOS; you'll get weirder stuff than you usually find in most apps. Lots of built-in microtonality. Like ED, it has a distinct sound palette, but it's easy to load in your own stuff.

In many ways, fluxpad is perfect for my iPhone (I like the design choices they made, too!). There's been quite a bit of talk lately about sampling on the fly in Samplebot and Werkbench. This is another great tool for sampling on the fly and then drawing in the pattern. In my fumbling hands I get much different results with this than I do from samplers with pads (BM3 and Samplebot) or step sequencers (Werkbench). And you've nailed it: it's just plain weirder. Too bad the video didn't include more found sound in the skater's epic adventure.

I personally think the drawing is too clumsy and uncontrollable on on ordinary iPad, will download it on my iPhone and give it another try. But not too high expectations. Probably Fluxpad as a real instrument could be great on an 12.9 iPad Pro with a pencil :)

  • Just plain weirder sampling is worth $5 to me. Thanks!

I think this is absolutely true if you are trying to coax a certain rhythm or something fairly conventional out of the drawing tool. I find that I use the pads for that. But the drawing tool gives total wtf stuff that I'd never think to do if I was "composing". The drawing function is more like "decomposing". :)

  • And if you draw from right to left it reverse the sample. So if you are looking for one other step sequencer you've got it completely wrong but if you are looking at the strange, funny, not boring stuff side of things it is a very good start indeed.

  • Used sparingly, it can add some fun interplay with other apps via AB3/Link. Unlike most apps, it's kind of hard to get anything too lockstep, which is a nice change of pace (although there are quantize/scale controls if you want them). I never really use the built in sounds— too trendy EDMy for my taste, but now that it's on the phone I'll probably use it more when I'm sitting around. Not a bad deal for $5 now that it's universal.

I will say the the phone version is pretty buggy— eraser works sporadically, mute toggles off when you close the touchpad, notes at the very beginning of a loop sometimes don't play, crashes. Some of these issues were present on the iPad, too. I don't use it very seriously, so I just deal, but it may piss you off.

  • how do i get samples from audioshare into this app?

  • Btw it is not by the same dev of ED. It is the same house but for ed there is Oliver where for fluXpad is Jan of SQRT, teatracks

You’re supposed to be able to long press an instrument and Import from Audioshare but when I do it the app Pulse opens up instead... weird. Can you test please? I’m rebooting!

  • Still does it after reboot. Will report.

  • Uninstalled Pulse and it’s fine. On we go...

That's weird, will have to check that.

Agree though somehow the idea of drawing sounds was so much better implemented in Soundythingie (unfortunately 32 bits and abandonware)

  • Although I completely skipped this before I can kind of see a creative use for it. Can it export MIDI or anything like that? How would it be as a sketch pad for incorporating non trained creators creativity into a digital workflow?

  • Anyone able to create a new project on iPhone? I'm unable to select a kit or get anything to happen when I tap on "create new project". iPhone 6s.

Did you fill in a creator? Should probably be pre-filled because it's required.

I agree Soundthingy was great, though the concept was quite different - apart from the drawing itself.

I tried to, but it won't let me complete the action. That is, I tap on "Creator" and it opens the keyboard. I type in my name and tap on return. Nothing. I tap outside the keyboard to see if I can return to one of the other fields. Stuck. I have to shut down the app at that point.

@teatracks I’m having fun with this app. I love being able to draw in the sample reverse for starters. It would be great if when you import a sample from Audioshare it took you to it and selected it for the track you are on. You have to go look for the imported sample in the Audioshare folder at the moment.

You're right it should work like that. I've noted it as a bug.

That will be fixed in an update which is waiting for Apple now to be approved.

  • lots of fun. very iOS-type of app.

  • bought - thanks for another fine improvisational sound mangler that lets you make a song! <3 double plus thanks for bringing it to the phone

  • Very good so far as sauce for on top of the main meal.
