Video Demo of iOS 7 and how to set up and use InterApp Audio with Looptical and Audiobus

The title says it really..I record some stuff with IAA and near the end intergrate it all into Audiobus and do some more recording to see if it all works together..I much prefer the Audiobus workflow at the moment..anyway hope you guys enjoy this..also give a good indicator of how iOS 7 works with the iPad 4.

  • Nice video! Very informative.

Some quick comments about Looptical that the video brought up-

I see now why you were asking me in a PM about a greater than one bar count-in. Really, all IAA non-host apps should have a transport that controls the host - it's a fundamental aspect of the design that Apple strongly "suggest". So you should always be able to be in a host and hit record, wait for the 4 bar count-in, and then start playing. You shouldn't have to ever press Rec in the host and quickly switch apps within 4 beats.

Unless you start having memory issues, you probably don't need to kill off the node apps each time. This is why you are getting Looptical defaulting back to the mic when it detects that the connected IAA node has vanished. You can also set the Interface for Audio Tracks to be "Audio Track" and not "Recorder" which gives a visual view of the waveform of the track, but more importantly doesn't monitor incoming audio. Or you can easily turn off audio monitoring altogether, perhaps temporarily while you are not directly needing it. The Looptical Audio Recorder was designed before IAA was added, so maybe I'll change things around in a future update so it is possible to use it purely for IAA apps and never listen to the mic. Good to see people using IAA in a real-world situation so these things become apparent.

The Audiobus menu swipes in from the right in Looptical. You must have slightly missed-swiped. :) Audiobus setup happens entirely within the Audiobus app, which is why Looptical auto-selects AB in place of the Mic when you select it as an input or output node, and then you use the AB app to setup the connection.

Having those tracks in Looptical, you can add up to 5 insert effects per track, and have the effects live-monitoring as you play the node app. (I figure there wasn't enough time to show this in the video, but it was worth pointing out here for my own sneaky advertising purposes) :)

    Thanks!

  • Great vid again Doug. And thanks for the additional tips @MooCowMusic. Good stuff!

  • Thanks..great tips there, and its the bug with the Alchemy interface having no IAA transport that caused me the problem..

  • Cool - great demo-ing as always!
