Off Topic: New Firefox on iOS 11

FYI: if you’re running iOS 11, the new Firefox is fast and kinda badass with full time tracking protection

  • Interesting, thanks for the link.

  • That doesn't apply to me - I've been using firefox on my ipad, my android phone, my macs and my linuxes since, well, I don't remember it not being there and frequently used most days.

  • Been using iCab browser for years now. Very customizable, loads of options.
    Worth every cent.

  • I‘ve been using Firefox on my desktop for ages but never installed it on my mobile devices, dunno why. This article may change that ;)

  • Has anyone else noticed since iOS 11 that Safari is surprisingly high on the battery usage scale?? I don’t spend nearly as much time in Safari as I do in music apps, games, Netflix, etc, yet it’s almost always at the top of the battery suckage list. I don’t even watch many videos in it, and I swipe-close it every time I’m done, yet it is always the biggest battery drain.

I think I’ll try Firefox and Chrome for a bit, and stay away from Safari to see how that influences battery usage.

  • Good info

  • I don't get it. That article is about Quantum or FF57, which is indeed very good, but is entirely different from ios FF

That's because Apple has very strict rules regarding browsers on ios, meaning it's not even using the same engine as on every other platform. Think Safari reskin with some tracking protection. Unless i missed Apple removing those rules in ios 11?

Yes, this is what I also thought, all browser just based on the same old Safari.
