  • Just read a bunch of threads on Elektronauts and it looks like you can't practically do what I was imagining/hoping. You could use something like the RK-002 MIDI cable to do the voice distribution but it sounds like the synthesis engines on the rytm are really meant for drum sounds in that that they don't track pitch very well and have some odd sonic behaviors once outside of their intended range. Guess my a4 dreams will live on.

Here's a video of someone using the RK-002 cable to do something similar to what I was thinking but with a Digitakt. Jump to 16' or so to hear more interesting poly synth sounds. Love the sound at 26 minutes.

oh ok, you mean poly mode. hmmn...have not looked into this cable, although i have heard it mentioned a few times with different synths. to be honest i rarely use the analog four in poly mode, although sometimes i use 2 voices together, so i have 2 monos and one "duo phonic"(?). like a bass, a lead and 2 note chords. poly mode sounds great but what really shines about the a4 to me is having a 4 track sequencer.

now, the rytm has 8 active synth tracks (some which DO track pretty well, bd plastic and bd sharp, cowbell, etc). and 8 sample tracks that can blend in. that's 16 sounds without even pattern locking sample or synth changes. and samples go through the analog overdrive and sound pretty great, and the analog compressor at the end affects audio through, so i normally use the rytm last in the chain and use it as a master compressor.

all elektrons are missing something the other boxes have, so that you have to buy more. you can do finished tracks on all of them, but alone the a4 is probably least versatile having only the 4 tracks and no samples. alone with the rytm i usually use the middle row of voices (toms) for melodic samples , which gives me 3 active voices plus one variation and then i still have 8 more tracks for drums.

  • check out the new dual vco sound engine, which we don't have yet but should be released soon. 3 minute mark
