Imaengine - a great app!

edited October 2017 in General App Discussion

Vector based app, good for album artwork, concert posters, etc.

Cool thing though, it also does video!

Been dinking around with it along with LumaFusion, pretty cool stuff.

Highly recommended.

  • Ok, that is really good. Great, high res, clean output and in HD video too. Sold thx

  • Thanks for the nudge. Appreciate it.

  • That works really well. Bought. Thanks for sharing

Yes, I’ve had good vector converters for stills before, but none that works this well for video too. And universal as well!

Can’t believe it’s only a $2 IAP. Kept looking for the catch. But there’s not one. Just good, versatile, easy to use, useful, and good quality output for peanuts. Felt guilty buying it for so little.

    That's excellent, thank you.

  • Yes, one of hte greatest photo/video Apps out there (I seem to remember it being recommended here, before?, caus that‘s how I think I got to know about it...). One MUST try that „random“—button...

Just playing with that - I seem to get the best results from tapping that a few times instead of the presets.

I don’t really use the iPad for graphics, but this is making me think I should invest in a vector app on it so I can edit the results from this one, rather than exporting to Designer on the desktop.

This one is the same as the full desktop version. Made by Autodesk

Alternatively you could wait for Designer to arrive on ios. It's on its way

Graphic is a quality vector app that plays well with Imaengine. Though I seem to remember some of the Imaengine exports being too complicated to import, with the workaround being you had to export as a PDF (which works fine by the way). I might be wrong on the details there, but it was something like that.

The other good thing about Graphic is that you can import custom fonts into it.

As for Imaengine, solid developer behind it too, in terms of keeping it up to date and being responsive.

  • This is excellent value. Unlike another photo app I came across recently.

Photofox (formerly Enlight) has a subscription model, or a buy once option. Great, except the buy once option is something over £38....and according to the developers, that is 50% off. Madness.

Are they porting that over as well? I’ve got Photo and Designer on Mac and PC and they’re excellent, Designer would be worth getting for iOS - though I’ve held off so far with iOS Photo as I only use the iPad for music - apps like this one make me rethink that though.

Thanks both, I’ve just been checking the Store for vector apps but didn’t see this one. Might be worth getting if iOS Designer is still a long way off.

I’m going to import a couple of tests into Designer on desktop in a bit, to see what the output is like.

Update: imported nicely into Designer and quality was pretty good - nicely editable without too many superfluous nodes.

  • You've all sold me on something I don't know much about.
Can someone explain what I can do with the upgrade?
I thought the benefit of vector graphics was that images could be resized while keeping resolution.
    Is this close to truth?

Yup, they're porting Designer. Not sure how far away it is though

    Yep, scalable and editable.

IAP allows video recording, user presets and extra filters.

  • It seems pretty good even without the IAP as you can import video and export without it.
Best results from vectors though are always hand made (see A scanner darkly) but these filters can be a useful starting point.

  • Interesting, I am unable to find this app on my iOS11 12.9 iPadPro. However it comes up in app store on my iOS10.x iPad Air. Is therre some limitation with iOS11 or the Pro? Anyone else see this issue?

Ah, turns out to just be a glitch accessing app store on the Pro, got it now just fine...

I noticed that too, but I was so thrilled with this one, I bought the IAP without a second thought about it, for no other reason than to support the developer.

That being said, the extra control you get in the editor is definitely worth the $2 IAP in my opinion.

  • I like it. Especially as can be used with vid. Excellent value.

Check out this dev's other app called aerograph. Doesn’t do video, and it’s very slightly buggy, but it’s decent and free.

Also let’s you export with a transparent alpha channel. Works great for importing into videos or other compositing and animation apps.

Aerograph Camera Filter by luis manuel Rivas

Just ran it over one of my MLK images and dig the looks of several of the filters. Kinda does a little random thing if you keep hitting the same filter.

  • Had a good play with this app today, and it’s a serious workhorse that will get a lot of use from me.

The IAP is worth having for the extra tools, but I’d have bought it anyway as I’d feel guilty not paying for something this good.

    Great find @1P18

Yes it's definitely worth it, was playing with the live camera feature today, it's got a good algorithm for sure.

  • Excellent app! Thank for the heads up
