Anybody experience with the Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter?

Anybody experience with the Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack Adapter? Is sound quality good? And does it work with irig 3.5 stuff like microphone or guitar input. I'm thinking of going iPhone 7 or 8 but not certain what the loss off de 3.5 mini jack in the end means, so maybe it could be better to upgrade to iPhone 6S. Very curious about experiences.

  • It’s just a simple wiring change. I don’t think there’s anything more to it than that. I’ve not noticed any difference. BUT if you have an interface like my iRig Pro, that doesn’t have its own audio output you’re screwed.

  • I believe it has a tiny DAC in it.

As for sound quality? OK in my experience. But i’m not fussy.

  • Imagine they took the jack socket and its electronics and put them on the outside of the iPhone instead of inside. It’s like that. It works just like a normal jack socket.

When connecting the Røde SmartLav+ to the Lightning->3.5mm jack there is a slight difference in 'bias'(ie. DC offset) compared to when using the built-in 3.5mm jack. (I've tried this on my iPad Air 2 and iPhone 5).

I do wish AudioShare had at 'DC Correct'(ie. auto-bias) feature...

For headphones it works fine and I can't hear any difference between the iPad Air 2's headphone jack and the Lightning->3.5mm adapter.

  • Thanks for your answers, so in fact nothing to worry for future generations iPhones :)

  • Does the internal mic still work when using this?

Yes, if the headphones do not have a microphone(ie. just a TRS not a TRRS jack).

  • Tested on
    iPhone 7 Plus
    iPhone 8 Plus
    iOS 14.4.1

I bought an original genuine Apple Lightning to 3.5mm
When I connect my ATH-M50, there's no hiss.
Start using any app that produces sound of any description, the hiss/static is not bearable.
I don't want to raise the volume so that my ears bleed.

I see a lot of positive comments with few negatives for this cheap adapter, but almost none mentioning hiss/static.
