  • Nice, I've no idea how you build a track like that, so hats off to you.

I've been playing with Egoist a bit again over the last few days. I bought it on release, and always makes me wonder why I don't use it more when revisited.

A very clever app, hope they port a few more across.

Smarter than me, for sure. ;) Egoist is one of those apps that requires and deserves more attention than I give it.

I went through adding a sample to a blank template yesterday, and instead of my usual 'randimiser madness', carefully made a short, chopped sequence, which in turn produced a really interesting loop. After checking out prices of the desktop versions, I've realised I'm missing a trick here. So I'm going to create a few bits on the desktop, import them onto the iPad for Egosit/Turnado mucking about, and then back to the desktop for inclusion in Maschine projects.

Very powerful tool this Egoist feller, so the plan for the next couple of weeks is to include it in a few new projects.

The MIDI out for bass is good too, shame they don't have the same for the drum section.

I've been making sounds and loops, mixtures of drum and synths using Auxy and then importing them into egoist. This one was purely sequenced and played out using Egoist only. Loving the effects sequencing and the different length and backwards forwards looping.

Next incorporating bass midi out, hmm maybe triggering arp. Yeah shame no midi out on the drums!

If you’ve got it, Cyclop is a perfect companion for the bass-out.

I was a bit daunted by Egoist at first, but there are a few good tutorials on YouTube that show it’s actually quite simple and straight forward (including making full tracks). I’ll try to find a link.

  • Here’s a link to a tutorial describing tracks and parts, etc.

I've not regretted the time investment I've made in Egoist recently. Ironically I came back to it while messing with BM3 and found myself more productive in Egoist! If someone challenged me to use a single app on the iPad, Egoist would be a top 3 contender. There's something about the layout (especially the part and song UI) and the feature set that just works for me.

    Likewise, I'm havin a BM3 break

BM3 is amazing but can something be too amazing? I find myself thinking about where I have to go in the UI to do things--the workflow is too sprawling. As an example, putting the drums and bass on one panel in Egoist is brilliant. My rhythm track is all in one place.

  • I like the track. What would motivate me to drop thirty smackers on this app, and then invest the time to learn it? (Considering that I just bought Sunvox for three.)

For me it’s so versatile. I can drop any loop or sound file into it, chop it up, sequence the slices in any order, play it forwards, backwards or both, slow it down, speed it up. I can add insane quality effects and come up with something completely new and different. I can add bass and drums. I can have a fun few minutes coming up with a nice little loop, perhaps inspiration for a new track, or as @d4d0ug has superbly demonstrated, make a complete track in Egoist itself and it does everything in between. This app is definitely in my top 3.

  • @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr Egoist goes on sale a couple of times a year.

Sampling Egoist in BM3 has been an absolute treat the past while. Once (if?) BM3 gets the famed transient detection then my Egoist usage may go down but for now the two are a great team.

  • Excellent sounds!
