newbie question ... voice and instrument live performance with iPhone 5
Hi,
I am hoping to set up a busking rig using my iPhone 5 and a small battery powered amp.
I want to be able to run effects on both my instrument and my voice, as well as play grooves from iKaossilator, Rhythm Studio or similar apps, and run tanpura drones and tabla beats from iTanpura. So I'm hoping to be able to have two inputs (can be left and right of the same stereo input) and route them separately through different effects devices, and then mix in the beats and drones.
Is this possible with Audiobus? The effects I would like are reverbs, timed delays and some modulations like phaser, rotary speaker etc. I'm not interested in "fabulous overdriven valve tone", which is what almost every app I see prides itself on. I play downbeat psychedelic world influenced improvisations where the effects are a vital part of the overall sound.
I have been doing this in gigs with an Ableton and Guitar Rig setup for years now but I'm hoping to take it to the streets with minimal hardware. Any ideas or suggestions most appreciated.
Also, any recommendations for an interface for this would be great. Please bear in mind that I'm on the iPhone, so nothing that requires the CCK will work. Lightning cable preferred as I would prefer not to need an adaptor.
Many thanks!
Andy

Well, I can comment on hardware: With IOS7 the CCK now works :-)
The tricky bit is going to be running different effects on the different audio feeds live, i.e. at the same time. The Audiobus filter slot does not (as yet) allow one to do that. It may be possible using iOS 7 IAA or , but it may be a while before all the effects and hosts you need mature to being useful to you. Alternatively xperiment with BeatMaker 2. I'm not familiar with any other DAW's on the iPhone that offer per track insert effects.
Have you already found the effects Apps you want? AUFX: series, or AD480Pro, or Echopad, or Audio Reverb, or Samvada, for example? Or do the BM2 effects get close enough for you?
If you are running a standard XLR connection microphone and guitar instrument, then something like the FocusRite Solo would give you the audio interfacing you need. It is USB powered, from the iPad, remains to be seen if the iPhone can power it though. Anyone tried that yet?
Hi, and thanks for the responses...
Could you please explain what "iOS 7 IAA" means?
At the moment I will probably concentrate on using my voice through the phone and keep using my external effects gear n my instruments. But it would be so good to be able to run everything through the phone. I have read the Beatmaker 2 manual and there is very little about using it live as a mixer hosting effects ... with or without playing loops etc. Is this possible? This is exactly what I do using Ableton in my laptop so it would be wonderful to do that with the phone.
thanks again
cheers
Andy
