If you check out the dev's FB you can see teasers for upcoming features.

Might even get them in time for iOS 12.

    That would be sweet.

  • FYI still on sale today! (so far)

  • Close to biting on this - is there something in this that I can't get out of iDensity? I've heard other people opine that the sounds are a bit limited.

Guys. Buy it. It's like that classic album every music lover should own.

What If the album is by Genesis but you’re into grunge?

Then i would tell you to listen to 'The Knife'

    Sounds painful.

Is borderlands of any use as a tight rhythmical generator? Does it sync to external clock? Most of videos I see are wish washy soundscapes.

I haven't found any way to sync it to anything, or for that matter control it from another app/controller.
The sounds coming out of it obviously depends on the samples going in to it.

If I knew what I know today, when I bought it, I wouldn't buy it today. But that is me. And I love what Rob does with it. But that is him. No idea where that leaves you. :)

Not by itself. You could run it through a filter and sync the filter. That said, there are probably better tools for mangled percussion.

It’s really best as an experimental soundscape tool. To get anything structured you’d have to spend a fair bit of time creating and arranging the samples you’re going to use, and then practice playing them live in Borderlands to get the sequence right.

I like it, but because it requires a bit of preparation beforehand I don’t tend to use it that much.

Good app, but it’d be nice to see an update. I tend to use iDensity more for this sort of thing.

  • I like trying to grab the little blighters once I've animated them too fast.

  • All good to know. Passing on this, despite the very nice price.

Yeah it's all wash. But I think it sounds great looped over drums. I just get something I like and then cut it to a certain amount of bars and bam... sweet washy goodness.

I wouldn’t write it off, it’s a lot of fun for the money. I’d buy it again.

Just trying to exert some discipline!

  • Yep. Good at what it does.

    Granular washy.

How the heck do you turn off the animation? Still haven't figured that out.

  • I got it this morning and I’ve been running/mutating the deftault patch ever since, jamming some Gadget over top. Best pads ever.

  • Bought it. Regret it. Just a wierd way of making even weirder noises.

I couldn't work it out either (just picked it up in the sale as well). I made myself laugh trying to catch the little connected circles to try to modulate them. It's like game mode.

  • Any rumors about an update? It’s not been updated in 2 years so seems due, even though it works fine (AB3, AU, etc.)

developer has posted two or three updates on his facebook/twitter - he teased a quick video with few new features several months ago. I believe he also replied to somebody that Ableton LINK is being worked on too. But he does seem to take a long time between updates.

Oh, i never tried noise in this app! Thank you for the recommendation.

    ;-)

If you look into the settings then there are many options to use borderlands. It is very easy to produce ambient (or: not so ambient) soundscapes and noises, but with a little bit of planning, this can easily avoided.

I really like it for lots of uses, street noises ( :D ), transformation of noises, rhythmic things. Usually i use Magellan as a FX processor for it. I have to admit i still explore borderland granular.

My viewpoint now: It is a kind of a granular sequencer.

  • @JangoMango - check out Jakob Haq's video about Borderlands. He makes a fantastic drone with just his voice. I wasn't expecting that level of musicality straight out of the gate with this app. It definitely makes an argument for the playability of the app. Just forces you to think outside the box more than other more traditional synths.

  • Thanks fellas.. will have a look
