Audiobus doesn't show Focusrite 18i8 inputs/outputs

all -

When I hook my iPad Pro up to my Focusrite 18i8 and use AUM I can see all the audio inputs & outputs in its mixer; however when i switch to Audiobus 3 I only see the system in &out, no choices for other inputs/outputs (on the MIDI side AB3 works fine with the Focusrite).

Am I missing something or does AB3 not support audio interfaces?

thx!

  • One idea is to try the i818 with AB3 - w/out AUM or anything else audio related hooked up. Sometimes the 1st connected app grabs the Interface, so it's not available to other apps... like 1st come 1st serve.

  • I rebooted my iPad Pro (2015), and hooked it to a USB hub (apple usb adapter) that had the Focusrite 18i8 interface - AB3 saw the 18 channel inputs but didn't see any outputs on the 18i8, just hte 2 system ones.

One annoying thing that seems to happen with iOS is that whatever the most recent USB audio device that gets turned on is the active one that is shown to apps, and any previous one disappears.

However AUM seems to work alot better with at least the Focusrite interface from my experience.

  • afaik no version of Audiobus supports dedicated output channels as seen in AUM.
(it would be mentioned in the feature list, if that had changed with AB3)
I'd stick with AUM for output routing, but it's also possible with Mimix (mixer app) in an AB output slot.

  • If only IDAM were bi-directional. Then it would seem you could just make an aggregate device, or multi-output, and that would be that.

My only other idea is to try separate protocols... ie, maybe a thunderbolt + USB Audio interface. My interface has 2 Thunderbolt ports, so I was thinking to try a TB-to-USB into the CCK... maybe a downstream TB or USB interface would then be recognized.
