Patterning MIDI input?

  • Patterning 2, like most apps, is sensible about how it handles midi. It’s only apps like iM1 and, apparently KEW. That are “promiscuously” listening to hardware midi in. You should have little trouble with Patterning 2 once you understand how to configure the midi.

It's been a while since I tried it again, but in the first release of Patterning 2, midi in wasn't working great.

I mapped a midi trigger to the record button so I could record rhythms in via midi and tweak things on the fly. Quickly ran into midi bottleneck issues. Even triggering more than 1 or 2 drums at a time didn't really work. And turning two knobs that were midi mapped to control the mixer.. well only one would move and got constant glitching..

similar problems arose when I tried to trigger samples in Patterning 2 with a Squarp Pyramid. It would skip samples and the timing wasn't super tight.

Maybe it's been fixed, but that was my experience.

It’s for sure screwed up running with midi in in AUM. With Rozeta XOX only one note is processed at a time. You can’t have a kick and snare on the same beat. The same setup does work in Ape Matrix though. But, the choke groups aren’t respected.

I never noticed since midi out is all I use Patterning 2 for.
