I never thought I'd see the day that I would be having a go at a bit of the old modular synth programming

Check it out, its a bit of a bargain at $3.99

Great little modular app. Sequencer tempo knob a little wonky though on my iPad Pro 10.5 iOS 11.

Anyone notice he gave you a moog and an MS-20 filter! Filters sound good.

  • I thought it would get more interest too

  • I think there's some really good modular apps out there already so I'm not sure what extra sauce this one brings?

Ripplemaker, Modular, Z-Mors, Audulus and Model 15.

This one is simpler, easy to patch, like a scaled down, limited VCV or Softube Modular on the desktop.

The extra sauce is really good sounding oscillators, great MS20 filter set and Moog ladder filter. It sounds different. It’s limited but great fun and sounds great.

    It’s 3.99

  • Love modulars, but no core midi...

    And Caustic. :)

For me it looks fun but too limited compared to my other options.

Forum looks fine to me. ;)

  • Sorry, but it doesn't sound really good to me compared to other modulars.

    Good question! Lol.

Well don't judge this forum by my responses. There's some fine upstanding citizens still frequenting this place including yourself no doubt.

Good to know your thoughts on this app. I've got most of the developer's other apps already, Cornish solidarity and all that. Just trying to slow down my compulsion a bit I guess.

    Laters.

  • Looks cool. And a better looking interface than most others. Think I'm gonna buy it

  • It looks very playable. And sometimes limitations are useful to provoke new approaches. $3.99 is an absolute bargain TBH.

  • Hopefully it can be expanded on with more modules and a second page and or swappable modulesq

  • Sounds pretty cool, might be a Friday night noise treat.

I agree with this. At first I was a little bummed out about no Core Midi, Link and stuff like that. But after some tinkering I find it quite enjoyable, partly thanks to its limitations.

Is it like DR OM or Noisemusick where it can wail in many interesting ways, and doesn't play "notes" as such - I notice no onscreen keys, but there is that sequencer module...

  • bought it yesterday, played with it for a while, its not bad but Id like it better if I could also play it via midi like Model 15, plus it only plays those the left channel of my Apogee duet. It would have scored higher for me if it was an Audio Unit too. If I use the headphone jack on the Ipad I hear it in both ears, sounds mono but I hear it in both ears, Everything else plays thru both side on my Duet except this.

nope, cant use a midi keyboard with it and it doesnt have a keyboard.

Ya I figured, I knew there's no core midi or keys, but What's up with the sequencer module?

Well the sequencer is a 4 step sequencer , with 3 tracks

Its kinda fun but I cant say Im recommending it at this point, as far as IOS modular synths go I would probably recommend KQ MiniSynth over it, it cost maybe another buck or 2 but you get a lot more, Core midi, a LOT more modules that you can add, its just a lot more customize-able, and you get a lot more presets. For the most part I like making my own sounds but its nice to have more than one preset, which is the amount you get with S-Modular.
And KQ Minisynth is an Audio Unit too. My favorite IOS modular is Model 15 but thats in another league and price range, lol. I dont regret buying S-Modular but I just cant personally recommend it to anyone at this point.

    I hear ya
I'm a fan of KQ, Model 15, Pulsecode's Modular, ZMors Modular...in fact this'll probably be the first iOS modular I don't automatically buy.

  • I agree. Seem like a very odd choice to have no keyboard options. Pass.

Almost all of that developer's apps seem to be half-done.
They show promise, but instead of fine tuning the existing apps, he has a habit of just bringing yet another one to market.

  • Bought it. Played it. Deleted it. Cheaper than going out for a Saturday night movie. It is far less than Model15 and a waste of cash if you have that. If you don't than it might be a way to pay little to understand if Model15 is for you. But the sound modelling is a very far cry from Korg 's app. two oscillators some muxing, a cool little sequencer, filter, delay, meh. One to watch I suppose.
