  • IKaossilator too. But we are still waiting for those soundpacks that will likely never come but we are still hoping

  • I'm still trying to figure out how to build my own wavestation patches. I love that app.

  • Yes but this update is supposed to fix the file sharing bug that's been forever getting fixed , maybe. I've not checked it yet. The same 40 or so songs have been there forever and never would update.

  • Never mind now there are just four songs there. So much for that update . Was hoping it would get better not worse. While not abandoned it's almost there.

  • When you write a 'Performance' in Milpitas(Gadget) they are no longer deleted when opening the standalone iWavestation.

  • Keep those updates coming Korg! :)

  • iKaossilator as a 'Gadget' would be neat. It's still got some sounds that are not available in Gadget ;)
And well maybe Korg could surprise us with a 'sampler' too...

It's great when you do. Navigating the UI is not without it's quirks but if/when/already you get the structure, it's a lot like any layered synth (I'm looking at you LayR). It's so much more capable than its vast array of cheesy presets lets on. I actually got an iPad because of iWAVESTATION and Model 15.

Check out @1P18’s handy guide to begin (with pictures):

    And there's a recent(ish) thread here:

It took me a little while to get it.

Waves are the smallest bits. Some people might call them oscillators. There are hundreds to choose from, but you can't make or import your own. But that's ok. It's what we do with them that counts.

The default 'new performance' patch, 'iWAVESTATION EP' has 2 waves layered on top of each other, although you can choose just one to keep things simple and follow what you're doing, or double it to 4 if you're feeling ambitious and mercurial. Each of these 4 'synths' has its own filter, envelopes, and 2 LFOs, which gives you a fair bit of tweakability and movement already.

Let's get more complex, though. When you have 2 or 4 going, you can morph between them on a fairly versatile XY pad. And this is without even mentioning the special sauce - the wave sequencer. Instead of using just one wave as your oscillator for each 'synth', you can chain them up and make rhythmic sequences that sound like Peter Gabriel, or the theme tune to ER, or arpeggios! Or something we didn't hear yet. If you prefer, you can soften the transitions and have each sequenced wave fade into the next. It's ripe with possibility.

A 'performance' (i.e. a standard preset) comprises up to 8 of these (up to) 4-part 'instruments' - that's 32 synths, plus effects. You only get 2 effect slots for the whole 'performance', though. Oh, and multiple instances in Gadget, obviously (your effects remain). Layer them up. Add more. Stare into the sun.

I'm surprised it doesn't get more attention. I guess because it's difficult, the presets aren't great, the UI's a little clunky and the resonant filter's a bit weak. Oh, and sharing presets is pretty much a non-starter. Plus for some reason, the output is really quiet (I always boost it through Audiobus or AUM).

All this said, I love it to bits.

  • Wow, that guide is remarkable! Did you do that? How on earth did you get to that point?? I'm getting plenty of happy accidents that I love, but there's always one goofy "percussive" sound that, frankly, makes it sound like Peter Gabriel.
    Very happy for this.

  • Ah, no. It wasn’t me. I didn’t double check that pdf (it’s from an old thread) - I thought he’d have put his mark on it... It was put together by @1P18 (who seems to have been banned from the site for words said in anger), originally available here:

  • I'd guess Gadget FX/Mixer should arrive soon.

  • korg is probably going to give us more drum romplers...lol, the rompler is the way of most gadgets.

I'd pay for linear sequencing and better audio tracks ooooorrrrr audioUnit gadget!...who am I kidding I have all the gagets hahahaha

  • I highly recommend Xequence.
