  • Well Done!

I've lately had a 'change of heart' towards GarageBand. Despite it's shortcomings and missing features it's a pretty solid and fun app to use. One overlooked feature is the Live Loops and FX. I also like the non-destructive quantise features and being able to add AUv3 effects (in addition to the provided ones) and the EQ even has a histogram, something that is missing quite a few other apps :)

I changed from Cubasis to GB primarily based on the MIDI resolution issue, then the more I used GB the more I realized it was the best workflow for me...I have no doubt they will keep adding missing features...current GUI layout seems strategically designed for growth.

True, for me as a 'geek' just about the only thing I miss for now is editing of the recorded automation (Pitch-Bend, ModWheel and Touch Automation). I mean one can automate all the touch-instruments but there's no way to edit the recorded data.

And If I would 'nag' a bit I'd love to see the piano-keys get vertical velocity as an option. The accelerometer based velocity is a bit of hit/miss the Air 2.

Fullscreen AUv3's were already demoed at WWDC'17 so it's pretty safe to assume that AUv3 support will improve in the next GB update :) (Developers need a fully featured AUv3 host for iOS to fully test their apps).

Cubasis is also due for an update, who knows maybe it will get at least a bit higher midi-resolution :)
(But I don't think it will stretch as far as Garagebands non-drestrutcive per track quantise).

  • When I think about it...
...the 'Live Loops' feature in Garageband is actually a quite capable 'Clip Launcher' something that's not even present in Logic Pro X :D

I’ve been playing around with full screen AUv3 in BM3. It’s a beautiful thing. Would love to see apps like Geoshred take advantage of this
