Sure, but you are still doing your own thing, right?

What I mean is, you aren’t competing in the Loudness Wars, or trying to replicate whatever boredom the current media star is doing.

  • I do JAZZ. So, nobody gives a shit. BTW, all you young folk, please listen to it. It will change your life.

  • I make drug music.

    That is all.

That's the best kind! Especially with the patches you create for the ios synths. They be good for that.

For sure I do my own thing. I wouldn't know how to get in the loudness war if I tried. My stuff always sounds quieter than others.

  • From the poll it seems that beeing 90% mainstream is not very mainstream. So i should try that :)

I'd call it heavily based on what I consider "interesting" chord-progressions. And sometimes (if i get lucky) a strong melody.

Does that make my a "progger" or too-jazzy for the "masses" - so definitely not mainstream?
Probably. The current musical zeitgeist seems to be very much in love with endless jigging around with just one chord/key.

    Please yourselves!

    ;)

  • Look, if anyone requires any clarification, I’ve looked it up, and apparently this is mainstream:

Although, well done to Joe Dolce (who is now a serious poet and essayist) for winning the 2017 University of Canberra Health Poetry Prize.

Well, now he has done the soundtrack of this movie and the frontier between mainstream or not is now less obvious

That is great advice, but I think there may be something in the brains of young folks that makes them immune to jazz. I really tried liking it when I was younger, but could not get it. Fortunately, about 15 years ago, I immersed myself into it, and discovered a love for it. Damn, I was a stupid kid!

RE < @Skyscrapersax - I do JAZZ. So, nobody gives a shit. BTW, all you young folk, please listen to it. It will change your life>

I used to think the "gateway-drug" into Jazz was by introducing the un-initiated to late 70s to early 90s Pat Metheny Group.

But amazingly to me - even that - to me - very accessible - introduction to improvised instrumental music ( that borrows from not only jazz but mid-west "americana" and brazilian music ) - seems to leave many cold :(

    Suit yourselves.... :pensive:
