Quantum - new video session available - mixing parts

So you have all had Quantum for a couple of weeks now, yes? So time for a more advanced video session!
This time I'm showing off the mixing of parts.

  • Such a great app !!!
    Thanks for the video @midiSequencer
Can we transpose the sequences via a midi keyboard?
I'm allergic to doing everything via button pushing - I like to perform as much as possible ;)

  • This thing is so deep, what a brilliant piece of software.

I love it, but I seem to have missed the 12-part video introduction to Quantum?? :)

  • Sweet! This is so cool!

Nice. So, all four parts playing only a one step sequence in Seq 1 ... how have the parts been configured to make the variations (other than the live jamming of velocity)?

  • Just in time for the second season of stranger things ;-D

  • Great tune!

Yes. Just make sure MIDI Input is on. Remote transposition is the default state.

Think that's it. He's made a chord by using all four parts. That way he can vary the intensity of each note via the mixer (which you can't do with regular step chords, I don't think).

Looks like sequence 2 (the melody part) has some follow actions set to bounce back and forth between version 1 and 2.

  • Thanks Tony!

  • Has anybody tried using something like Modstep to trigger Quantum sequences, using AB3/AUM has the host?

  • @midiSequencer
Would it be possible for us to access this setup - a link for download?

Watching it is one thing - being able to download it and analyze what you are doing would be of much help.

And may I suggest that as this is a deep app, that any future videos can have a link for us to download the settings so we can learn and understand what this great app is capable of, and quicker - without confusion.

Ok, so, will you be able to record this performance to midi (think I saw a midi recorder in a planned update), and automation of the faders also?

    Nice..

  • Patch available here (but you'll need Quantum v1.2 to use the Transpose all parts - they only work on single parts atm - it will be submitted today).

In this session the only automation is (as @syrupcore spotted) is sequence 2 loading another 16 step version after 5 loops (loop x4, load rel ver -1, restart on both versions).

I've made the 'Transpose all parts' available on remote too - so I could either map this to a midi cc or use NRPN or use a midi keyboard to transpose it, but I like doing this by hand (just one mistake near the end when I returned back to 0 too early). But I'm looking to make Quantum as remote controlled as possible too.

@syrupcore - re not being able to vary the volume of a chord - yes you can do that in the Chords Panel (gate & velocity are there) but this is more fun in the mixer. Seq 1 is limited though - for example I can't use cycle to delay transpose to a loop end as its only one 1 step, but I could automate all my transposes if wanting this as a song.

Note: you need the next version (v1.2) of Quantum to see the Transpose all Parts.
Will upload the AUM preset too (Zeeon & Patterning & EOS2).

This was my first ever recording of using drums too - but was mainly an exercise in using the mixer to blend synths - notice seq2 has a great timbre change with lower velocity.

@RajahP - yes midi recording is on my list of things to do (as well as loading midi files), but these first few releases are all about bug squashing.

  • Wow! Thanks can’t wait. :)

With you at the back of the room. Let me know if you find the teacher :)

Rest assured, I intend to produce simpler intro videos for a bit now :)

  • This thing just keeps opening up. Tried to recreate and improvise on what you did here and it's so much fun! Sounds like magic.
