beatmaker 3 to seamlessly drive 2-3 hardware synths?
been spending my time mostly on hardware, just using iOS for loop creation (aum and mucking about with diverse apps, or gadget) and for mixing (auria) but am lacking midi sequencing with my hardware.
i gave up on bm3 within the first week due to the initial bugs and losing hours of work. then i got some of my hardware and have been busy learning and playing those and haven't reopened bm3. i still use xyntesizer for some stuff but i want to sequence longish polyphonic bars (usually around 8 bars, but sometimes 16)to midi slave to my electrons and trigger a couple of hardware synths. i don't need anything other than 1-2 midi channel outs. no fx, no samples, etc. how solid is bm3 in this regard (before i relearn what i forgot already).

Yeah...right now the only way to get Midi out to work in BM3 is to load the pad with a sample...clip it to half second, turn off audio and then wire up your Midi Out/Channel on the pad to drive your synth.
Here's a vid I did from a few months ago:

My work around was to just sample an internal input with nothing coming thru it, creating just a "blank" sample, that way I dont have to do anything but load it, no need to clip any audio. I also made it my fav so I could get to it right away....

yep...good idea.... @Strizbiz
I believe you can remove the sample after making the midi settings and the midi settings are still retained. I use a sample I have which is silent and is very small - so that, in case I forget to remove it, it has no effect.
Here's a link to download it if you like. It's also useful for use in patterning when all you're doing is sending midi-out.

Thanks guys, Im guessing at some point we'll get an update that lets us not have to load a sample like BeatMaker2 does.> @wim said:
Nope, when you clear the samples all the midi setting are gone, at least for me.
Coulda sworn I tried that. Oh well, that makes the empty wav file that much more useful. You can set up a bank quickly with copy/ paste on each pad, then save it for later recall so you don’t have to go through that every time.
Well tested a few things and sticking with cubasis for the time being. Easiest to setup and just worked.
FWIW, I've found Modstep to be the most fun and enriching experience when it comes to playing and sequencing external gear...it's just so fun and fast to play via the Clips workflow when jamming and experimenting....taking all I learned from that workflow and applying it to the Octatrack workflow I am now undertaking...
^ me too!

Cool. I have modstep and have never used it except for opening it and checking it out. But back then there was a lot of grumbling. No more?
But i am almost scratching that. The ipad is so big, plus a controller (one of the studio kontrols). Thinking of maybe getting the digitakt again (trading it for my moog sub phatty) just for midi, and maybe a few loops. Or an octatrack mk 1 (completing the dark trinity).
Hahah....GAS ATTACK
Modstep is really solid for sequencing these days...what's cool is mixing in external synths with iOS AU synths via AUM....best of both worlds. It's what I use to do before I started noodling on the OT MK2 with my gear....
What poly sequencer were u using in aum? Or do you mean running modstep in aum?
When using Modstep I use it to sequence everything. I host the AU synths in AUM and assign them specific midi channels. In Modstep I then point my Tracks to the Midi Channels hosted in AUM, and the Midi Channels of my external synths. I have audio running out of my iPad and synths into my Audio Interface so I can hear it all come together....if I want to record the performance I either do it directly in camera if intending to post to YouTube or in Ableton Live if I want to keep it and manipulate it later....
