Hi, my name is Dave and I’m an appaholic.

You guys ( my support group ) have never failed me yet. I have had iSem, Zeeon, DrumPerfect Pro or Drum Session all in my wish list ( thanks apple for getting rid of the reminder that I need to spend more money with you ) but anyway back to the topic, I will probably end up purchasing most of them at some time. My question is what one first? iSem seems to be a solid staple in the community but hasn’t seen an update in a year. Zeeon is new and shiny but lacks some features I would like to see before I purchase. Then there is the on going conflict between DrumPerfect and Drum Session, that is a tough one. I like supporting the devs on the forum and I just seen the dev for DS just popped back in so....

Thanks

  • Cut a piece of paper in 4 equal sections. Write the name of an app on each. Put in hat or bowl. Mix thoroughly. Pick a winner. Save the other 3 for next purchasing dilemma.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Zeeon, hands down, easily

  • I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. It's highly doubtful iSem will be abandoned because Arturia is behind it. At a minimum, I would expect them to maintain it if they don't develop it any further. It's good as it is.

I have no reason to believe the others won't continue to be developed.

If you're really torn between them, I suggest really thinking about your app collection, where it might be deficient, and what you're likely to get the most use from in terms of sounds and features.

Zeeon is amazing - sounds better than most synths, even iSEM.

iSEM - super useable and a great app. You should get this one, but go with Zeeon first.

DrumPerfect/Drum Sesson - FANTASTIC app that is fantastically complicated. VERY different use case than Drum Session. Do you want to program the s#!t out of your beats, or just have something to jam along with? If A then DP, if B then DS.

    My name is also Dave.

    I am also an Appaholic.

It's been 5 minutes since my last session.

iSem is very stable in my experience and apart from link on the arpeggiator I can't think of anything that needs to be added or fixed. You will probably end up buying them all in the end so maybe waiting for sales is the best way to decide!

  • Zeeon

    PS. BM3 cured my appoholism.

  • Zeeon is the one to choose...it's a gnarly beast of sonic beauty :)

  • ZEEEE-ON! ZEEEE-ON! ZEEEE-ON!

  • iSEM has some great arps and sequences if you're the preset type. Other than that, it's Zeeon all the way.

  • Zeeon is the funnest
Syntronik for the intro price is a nice deal too

I’m trying to hold out till next month and see what the Black Friday App sale gods bring
    I’m also a new appoholic
I also check for app updates constantly since iOS 11
Just one more app and everything will be OK haha

  • Hello my name is KÜHL and my wife says I’m an appoholic

  • Yeah, I've overdone it a bit. Trying to exercise a little discretion now.

@JudgeDredd - re DPP and DS. The devs have all been active on AB. DPP just had a lovely mixer update included in its iOS 11 update which really added to it. I think it is the premier drum app on iOS right now in terms of features and control.
DS sounds great as well and has a nice pattern sharing feature which I hope takes off.

I recently got iSem for $5 on sale. Amazing value!

All four of them are good, and worth owning.

In my subjective opinion Zeeon > iSem, and DPP > DS.

My main gripe with Drum Session is that the samples are way too "rock" for me. If you like that big drum sound then you'll be happy, but if you're after something more subtle it's not so good (my favourite drum app is Soft Drummer :) ).

  • Hi Dave, take a seat!

  • Any real appaholic wouldn't be asking, they'd buy them all.

    This!

And then they deny it ever happened to their loved ones :D :D :D

  • Well, after reading everyone’s comments ( thank you by the way ) I went on a bender and got both iSem and Zeeon. It was a wild night... Now how to pick between the two drum apps... that is going to be difficult.

  • There is no way you can go wrong with iSEM.
Drums? I can't help ya because I've neither of the apps.

What are you looking for in the drum app ?
Sounds, song building ? Realtime MIDI control ? Intricate pattern building ? Easy switch on and play something ?
Knowing these will give people something to go on when making recommendations for you :)

Yes, all of the above. I am working on a kind of DubStep meets space odyssey meets techno house kind of kind of thing.

I need versatility and quality sound and would also like to jump in and run.

If any of that makes any kind of sense.

  • The best 'medicine' I've had so far is the removal of my credit-card info from the AppStore :)
By using 'Gift Cards' I feel I have a bit better control over the spendings...

Yes, with Dubstep and House you would want electronic drums rather than acoustic ? (both DPP and Drum Session focus on acoustic drums) AFAIK
Perhaps Future Drummer would suit better ?

And you are probably right. I have iSpark, Vatanator, Patterning, Ruismaker FM, DM1, DM2, ElasticDrums, Impaktor, Axon 2, RealBeat, BeatHawk and BM3.

I know I can produce what I need using those, but I hear so many great things about DPP and DS.

+1 on all of it, almost word for word, but with a Swedish accent

I can't speak for DS as I have never used it, but I do have DPP, it can sound amazing, fine if you're gonna use the inbuilt loops and buy the IAPS, but I found that making your own to the same level is a very daunting task, and I didn't find the UI that intuitive, particularly when you start trying to use the probability stuff with groupings. There are those that get really excellent results from DPP but it does take a lot of time investment in order to know what you are doing with it.

I wasn't patient enough and gave up.....I now use both Future and Funk drummer and the Ruis' for my drum needs, I get decent results with, what is for me, a minimum of fuss :)
