App for guitar chord sheets with customizable diagrams

Hey, slightly OT but as a guitar teacher I like to use iPad apps as much as possible for sheet music. I like to use notion and iReal Pro a lot, sometimes GoodReader, Forscore, Documents etc. They work great for some things. But what I haven’t been able to find until now is an app to create simple chord sheets with custom creatable and freely positionable chord diagrams.
Something like these blank chord stamps one can get to stamp into sheet music basically but with an actual user created chord library.
Is there anything you guys could recommend? Surely there must be something out there. Thanks!

  • Guitar Toolkit can make custom chord sheets, amongst many other things.

Thanks, yes it can do chord sheets. But I found it lacking many things. There’s not even a basic G chord with the very common voicing GBDGDG, only GBDGBG. If there’s a way to add custom chords I haven’t been able to find it.

  • For example the very simple song Jane S Piddy by Sixto Rodriguez I was going to write a chord sheet for a student. It goes like this:
    G (GBDGDG) Bm/A (AF#BDF#) C (CEGCE) D/F# (F#ADADF#)
No way to do this in guitar toolkit afaik.

  • +1 guitar toolkit

  • You can create any chord in any tuning. Just use the chord builder screen:

  • Ah, can you do Ukulele chords (suggested by your pic @richardyot ) and I assume you can add the lyrics too?

Also, what are the output options?

  • That looks just the ticket for my needs. Thanks @richardyot !

  • I'm looking forward to hearing the results on SOTMC. You know we have a thing about ukuleles. :D

    Hmm

  • Just to note that you have to buy the IAP to customize chord sheets. The other great thing about GTK is that you can sound the chords within the chord sheet and add chords that match a scale. Very cool app.

  • What a swiz! On loading the app first time it tells you that you have 3 minutes to upgrade to GuitarToolkit+ for half price! (£5.99) Of course I said no, as I hadn't even seen the app yet, and now it is £11.98.

I can't take that kind of pressure. Time for a refund I reckon..

  • I think I bought the app about 4 years ago - can't remember how much I paid for the IAP. I had actually completely forgotten that the functionality was unlocked via IAP, sorry.

  • Wow, I stand corrected then. I hadn’t seen the custom chords. Cool beans!

No problem, I knew it was an IAP, @funjunkie27 mentioned it after you. But a 3 minute window in which to choose to upgrade! No thanks.

  • ..and then the next time I opened the app, a popup with the message "Last Chance 50% off!", £5.99.

Stoopid beggars but I guessed it worked because I bought it this time. :D

  • Any idea if the lyrics can be left aligned ? And made bigger?

Don’t think these chord sheets are thought out properly..

The first time you open the app you get the "Last Chance 50% off" £5.99 offer. If you then close the app and open it again you get the "Last Chance 80% off" £2.99 offer. If you close the app and open it again you don't get any offer.

Sharp practices then. Bought it at £5.99 but I'm not sure it's all that useful after all.

  • There doesn't seem to be anything else for this type of chord sheets. I agree there's a lot of room for improvement. But it's doubtful they'll ever develop it further. Same as their other apps like AmpKit which also had this kind of Last chance offer IAP IIRC. Since I bought the whole package nothing got added anymore...
