SugarBytes unique- how to midi??

For the life of me I cannot get any midi in to Unique

Anyone else have this? Or know a workaround?

I simply want troublemaker to control it but the settings show omni etc and you can’t choose unique from trouble maker

Comments

  • Well the Simplest way is

    Open AB3
    Select the midi tab
    Put Troublemaker in input slot
    Put unique in output slot

    Bingo.

  • Another way is to put Troublemaker in AUM load Unique send midi from TM midiout to Unique from within AUM.

  • But but this is the Audiobus forum not the AUM forum :)

  • Ok, this all very good, but isn't it possible to choose MIDI channel within the app?
Or choose port/source for that matter?

Thanks for this. Never gotten into this (this way). Simplest tutorial evah :)

    Lol

Audiobus is no longer the only way... it was the first of a few ways :)

You can do it in Midiflow or MidiFire as well and midibridge if your not on iOS 11

  • In Unique select the wrench on top right, then click „settings“, then click „midi“, then select input and port. Whatever sends Midi should appear as selectable, otherwise choose „virtual midi“, then: fun!

  • Thank you @animal for clearing that up. Don't yet own the beast, but nice know know.

It seems like it should work like you described but on my iphone 6+ running ios 10.3.3 it just does not work with your method. I can send midi out from Troublemaker to other synths just not Unique, unless I use Aum, AB or midifire type apps.

  • Just tried the method above and works for me.

    iPhone 6 10.3.2

Did you turn on Background Audio?

Yes, background Audio is on in Unique. Maybe something changed in 10.3.3. I can also get other apps to send midi
to Unique like @animal described but not Troublemaker.

  • Can't get it to work now straight from Troublemaker. Weeerd!

  • Tried DRC, Mood and MIDI Synth. All work fine on distinct channels. Unique doesn't.

  • Works fine in AB3 though.

Same here thats why I use a host app then Troublemaker can send midi to Unique.

  • I just wanna make the on-screen keyboard smaller on the iPad. It's 1 octave. What am I supposed to do with 1 octave? Meanwhile on my old tiny iPhone 5 it's 3 octaves or something. Cmon SB, you put in a lot of effort in this version of Unique, but there are no keys to play on (why, why, SB? Lol)

  • Never tried with troublemaker, so I didn‘t know about this special sauce...

  • Confusing and somewhat contradicting statements about Unique's MIDI capabilites. The manual is no help, as MIDI is cover by a single line, followed by an paragraph about MIDI learn.

Might there be differences between the iPad an iPhones versions?

Is it AB3 MIDI only, in the sense that channel/port selection is handled by/via the host(AB3)?

    No

You DONT need ab3 at all

    Just use AUM

If you own AUM, you don’t need ab3 for anything at all :)

    I beg to differ. Strongly.

  • Horses for courses I own both yet seldom fire up AUM but use AB3 quite often.

  • The crux is Unique does not get MIDI directly from Troublemaker. You need a MIDI host like AUM or AudioBus3.
