So I have 2 iPads now. Any ideas for connection between them and uses?

Hello,
I have been lucky to get a new iPad Pro and still have my iPad Air 2. I was messing around yesterday with lemur but it was hard to establish a connection. The best way I found was my Pro is cellular so I created a hot spot and that seemed to work ok.
What is the best way that any of you are connecting yours. I’m limited because of my back to the couch so don’t want a bunch of cables laying around. Is the CCK the simplest solution for this?

What functions or workflows do you use between the 2? I tried to get TouchOSC working but to no avail.

Thanks
Chaz.

  • If you just need tempo sync use Link enabled apps and one of the link to midi for apps that don't have it.

  • Also, I like audiobus remote very much

Another good tip, AB Remote is great!

  • One of them, the lower power one, as a bluetooth midi controller. Any midi sequencer (ms, il, xequencer), tc-data/thumbjam or maybe lemur/mididesignerpro. The ipad is an amazing midi controller with its touchscreen.
If you like the workflow I would recommend going wired connection in the long run to avoid frustrating midi clock/timing issues if your sequencing.

What would be my best route for a wired connection then?

  • Ah, ok you have tried lemur. If you have Aum it makes bluetooth connections easier or their are some free dedicated programs that do it also. Midimittr is a good one.

You could use an interface from iconnect, I am sure someone can advise on which model, that option will allow audio as well as midi between devices. Alternatively you could hook up a midi interface, (there are many), on each device.

Either option is going to be expensive, especially if you don't already have the camera connection kits!

  • I have a usb midi thru box (m-audio midiman me. Note needs the usb3 version of the cck) and a cheap usb-din midi converters through but the poliphony can be unpredictable. Iconnectaudio4+ is best if you have the budget. There are some guys in spain that make a usb-usb midi interface that looks interesting at 'only' 39 euros, I think @Matt_Fletcher_2000 has one. The iconnect would be 200

Here is a link to the spanish guys

I have one of those works pretty well - does require 2 lightning to USB adapters though.

  • While on the subject whatever happened to IDAM?

  • Just to clarify...Wifi midi does not work between 2 iPads and only between iPad and a desktop. Is this correct?
