Help choosing a synth
Hi everyone, I'm looking for a second synth app for my ipad, I think I have narrowed it down to Animoog, iMini, and Audulus but I can't decide! Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Basically I'm looking for a classic style synth with a keyboard, moderate amount of complexity, and good looking. Thanks in advance!

One just came out today and it's awesome. Follow the thread on this site for Arturia SME

What's your other synth?
I sure would hate to have to narrow it down to two synths but I understand if that is your choice. Actually that may be a good thing to begin with. Get to know them both very well before acquiring more synths.
All three that you mentioned plus @mgmg4871 suggestion is a good starting point. There are very many (almost synth saturated :-) ) synth apps available and I would try to view/listen to all of the demos/videos that have been posted here and on YouTube.
Good luck.
if you don't have sunrizer i'd get that. sounds great. if you do have sunrizer, you could get any of the ones already posted. i'll also add nlog to that list, it's also quite good.
Audulus might be a little too complex for what your looking for, it's a great app but requires quite a bit of knowledge. iMini or Sunrizer and you can't go wrong, or iSem that was already mentioned
Thor, last spring's prom queen, lots of great presets, lot's of tutorials to learn. She's easy to get into and goes as far as you can keep up.
....one is never enough.
I make my personal List of Best 10 Synths:
1) Nave
2) Thor
3) Alchemy
4) iSEM
5) Animoog
6) WaveMapper
7) CubeSynth
8) Sunrizer
9) iMini
10) iPulsaret/Grain Science
Sunrizer or Nlog...powerfull and not the most complicated to work with . Now, there are a lot of great synths to choice. I have the most of them. I like Magellan too because you can put it into the slot effects, as Nlog does.
Wow thanks everyone for the response!
@mgmg4871 I just saw that one recently!
@syrupcore my other synth is Sunrizer
@Keebo I'm a little short on money at the moment, and was looking for another synth to mix it up a little. I do try to find everything I can before I make a big purchase. See if there are any cons.
@nvrhxd yes, Nlog is also up there for me
@JMSexton It's always good to have a bit of challenge. When I bought sunrizer I didn't know much of anything, and learned everything I know from it!
@TEDBPhx I'll have to look into Thor!
@Sinapsya Thank you so much! I'll look into all of them.
@fjcblanco more and more recommendations for Nlog, Thanks!
If you already have sunrizer, skip nlog, magellan and imini for now. They all cover similar sonic territory (though all three are different and wonderful in their own ways).
I'd vote for Animoog, Nave or Cassini. They all sound different than Sunrizer and they're all deep and great. Cassini's is greatly benefited on first listen by purchasing the $2 Sunsine preset pack. The shipped presets don't do it justice. Don't let the Animoog price tag scare you too much - it's absolutely worth it.
If you want less synth and more 'realism', check out Thumbjam. If you do want similar sonic territory to Sunrizer but just more/different (and a more shallow learning curve if you already know Sunrizer) I'd go with Magellan. Great sounding modern iOS synth with a lot of extra features.
You won't regret getting Animoog and iMini
Magellan is awesome, though it does cover some similar sonic territory as Sunrizer. Thor has amazing presets, but unless you have an iPad 4, you're going to run into polyphony issues really quickly unless you typically only play 2 notes at a time (and even then, notes with a long decay will start cutting at lower polyphonies if you play a notey passage).
I love NLog, iSEM, Nave, Animoog and Alchemy as well.
My two most used synths are Alchemy and Sunrizer. That said, Alchemy is probably the priciest considering all the sound packs are $4.99 each.
@syrupcore thanks, I'm definitely leaning towards Animoog. Thumbjam is also on the To-Do list.
@peanut_gallery I am looking for something in a different territory than sunrizer. I do, in fact have an ipad 4.
All these are great suggestions! I have my work cut out tonight!
Thor covers a lot of different synthesis types and has tons of presets, interchangeable with desktop version, all sorts of routing options. I think it covers the most ground
Alright final decision time. I have $30. Thor AND Nlog, or Animoog? Thanks everyone for the help! I have been reading this forum for a little while but this was my first real post. This is my favourite (of the few good ones) iOS musicians forum.

I was going to say Animoog, but in the last 12 months it has been on special sale price 9 (NINE!) times. Pick up the other 2 and wait for the next bout of Moog generosity.
I like Animoog but I still think Thor covers the most ground giving you tons of options and depth
Animoog is the most playable and expressive synth I've ever played. It would be a good addition next to Sunrizer. That said, I also have Sunrizer and iMini, and iMini is actually my favorite iOS synth right now. They really nailed that warm vintage Minimoog sound.
if you own Sunrizer i would not go for another"virtual analog"like Nlog.Sunrizer covers many forms of analog standards very well.I really try to like animoog,it has a great sound. But it often sounded too harsh for my taste (i'm not really a wavetable guy).Yes,you can avoid that by using just the"standard"waveforms and/or avoid wild modulation. But then...you could just use the iMini and don't need Animoog ;-) But the keyboard with polyphonic glide is something that nobdy else has... I'm also not a fan of the quite fiddly envelopes.
I would consider a more digital comerad as well.My favorite synth is addictive synth cause it has VERY unique and quite raw (FM)Sound (if you want),a nice sequencer, very good effects (love the reverb)and a clever randomize function. An ocean of new and sometimes never heard sounds is never too far away...Love how it often surprises me (saying that with a twenty years experience in sounddesign). And drawing waveforms for Oscillators AND Filters is a hell lot of fun.
My"to go"synths (i have a lot)are:iSEM (its new and awesome ,Addictive,Nave,Sunrizer,iPolysix and sometimes iMini...
I like Thor as well but it doesn't click with me yet and i have really no idea why,it makes many things right Maybe it's not intuitiv enough, instead of making music i just click trough hundreds of presets or i find myself get lost in the sounddesign because of all the possibilities (instead of making music).
.
Animoog does tend to go on sale. If I were going to get two others I'd get nave plus whatever synth strikes your sonic fancy. Nave has a lot if horsepower and room for growth. Or maybe nave and samplr or thumbjam?
Nave!
Nlog has IAA compatibility right now....
Hi again.
If expert people say Nlog is a bit redundant on Sunrizer, my vote changes to Addictive Synth.
I thing Animoog is amazing, but in some way, it lives in their own world (I'm not saying this as default).
Nlog sounds absolutely great, it's made by Rolf from Tempo Rubato after all. But certain parts of the interface is modeled like it's a hardware synth, with very limited and cramped bank and preset management. That seriously hampers it a bit. But if that doesn't matter, go for it (altho with Sunrizer on my device already, I'd personally go for something different, like Thor, Nave or Animoog. Thor and Nave being the most versatile in what sounds they can deliver, Animoog sounds amazing but kinda got it's own sound, if that makes sence).
To make your choice easier ;-p , Animoog has just gone half-price again...
10 (TEN!) times.
