Probably a stupid idea but most other creative industries have some kind of yearly award ceremony.
I have no idea how it would work, having trouble even making a poll!
I'm thinking if it was done properly (no bots) it could help newcomers to iOS music as well as good publicity for the many outstanding developers out there...

I don't see why not. Blogs and Youtubers usually have something similar at the end of the year, but I don't think anyone actually votes on those, just the one person's opinion most likely. Getting a poll going here shouldn't be too hard, and might deliver some unexpected results.

Polls are built-in here aren't they? There is an attach poll box when you create a thread, but I've never used it so don't know how easy it is to do.

It would be good to have nominees for each category, am sure we could come up with some more categories. Best indie developer would be needed as a large team with multiple app releases per year would have a big advantage.
It would be a bit of work to organise it in a way that makes sense and there is the problem of multiple accounts that can sway the votes.

Been reading up on how the oscars work, think we definitely need best makeup & hairstyling category in it.
Nah, I'd struggle to choose between the best dev, for example. There have been a few recently that have gone above and beyond the call of duty, and I wouldn't want to pick between them.
How about putting this idea to the old SoundTestRoom dudes. Get them back together for a video of the awards and some old time fun
