iPhone size: "regular" vs Plus? Is plus noticeably better for making music?
Are there any apps that:
- are noticeably more playable on a plus?
- require a plus to be playable?
- have a different UI on the plus, than on the regular iphone?
I am trying to decide what size to buy. I don't feel like carrying around a surfboard, but if it is much better musically, I will.

Personally I think it’s so, so, so much better.
Can’t imagine going back to a normal size phone.
I use it for most of my music now.
This is one of the main reasons I'm interested in the X, the huge screen from the plus with the form factor of the normal sized phone. I've love the bigger screen on the plus, but no way I would want to carry that as my every day mobile device.
love my 7p for the size factor. speaker sucks compared to my wives 6 tho
Bigger screen is a huge bonus, like all the girls say, bigger the better. That being said, ipads have bigger screen that + iphones. Personally i rather use smaller phone(iphone se) for phone and ipad for music. I can also hook iphone to my setup, but i use it with midi controller and as sound module only, so having a bit smaller screen isnt an issue.
I asked about a month ago re: RAM difference (2GB vs 3GB) and the consensus was not so much a big difference.
The most compelling argument I've heard for the X over the 8.
I've always been a huge proponent of purpose-dedicated hardware. As such, I always like a small-format phone for pocketability/portability and a real tablet (minis need not apply) for large format. In my mind phablets and mini-tablets were gross abominations that failed to meet either the convenience of the small format or the comfort of the large.
I got persuaded to go from the iPhone 6 to the 7+ solely because of the better camera of the 7+ vs the 7. Going back to my original point, I'm way more into using a dSLR for photography, but phone cameras have come a long ways, plus they're always there. The 7 series, with the portrait mode and image stabilization of the Plus helped close that gap though. I spent way too much mental time comparing the 7 vs 7+, weighing the size of the 7 against the better always-on-hand camera of the 7+, but landed on the 7+ and ultimately I adapted quickly, with no regrets. The 7+ definitely isn't a hip pocket phone, but all the other advantages of the larger screen make this a minor issue.
...and this is exactly why I pre-ordered the X: larger screen than a Plus with a smaller overall form factor.
TL; DR: From a former firm small phone advocate: go Plus or go X.
It’s not really though. It’s about the same width as the regular iPhone, only longer. The Plus still shows more: 414 x 736 points vs 375 x 812**. Regular iPhone is 375 x 667.
** minus notch.
Same. Though I still dislike my 6s for one handed operation (how I use my phone for almost everything other than music apps). Seems like the 10 will just magnify that.
That camera though...
I'm leaning towards the 8 Plus due to my degrading eye-sight...
Oy, you're right. I hadn't done my homework and had only compared the height of the X and Plus. The landscape comparison here really drives it home. I guess I'll be heading to the store to get some hands-on time before my pre-order gets here.
Good plan. Looks like a heck of a nice pocket computer either way. And if/once devs tap into the 3D scanner on the front, that opens up a whole new world of possibilities for apps, musical and otherwise.
Plus all the way. I started on 3.5" iPhone, then 4" but my current 5.5" is so much better.
BUT.....it´s also that apps getting more complex and GUI´s often doesn´t seem to be as good as in the past for iPhones.
I had no problem on my iPhone 4 but now there are some apps still feeling way to small on the 5.5".
The iPad takes over i know.
Animoog f.e. works great on iPhone, Model 15 is a bit small to have joy if you want to patch cables.
At the end....the bigger the better i would say.
