Why are that so few battery powered/Bluetooth pad controllers out there?
As a relative new fan of samplebased apps like Beatmaker 3, I often longing for a nice wireless pad controller to handhold and trigger pads into Beatmaker 3...
As I see it, it’s just AKAI LPD8 that seems to be the only solution (and Korgs NanoKontrol)...
But, I want to have 16 touchsensitive pads, not only 8...
Is the market for that pretty small?
iPad is about mobility, and it would be nice to move around with a controller in my hand while my iPad Pro is connected to my 2.1 audio system (Roland Cube220)...
Or, have I missed some product out there?

That’s what I hoped to be able to do with the ROLI `Blocks but haven’t managed yet.
Livid Minim has 16 pads, although only 8 are big enough for bashing out beats. Still, I use the 8 smaller buttons for chords and melodies.
The problem is that Bluetooth introduces latency that makes percussive playing a deeply annoying experience - way too much lag if you want to play fast and accurately
You could maybe try the little Yamaha Bluetooth midi adapter? It gets a lot of praise regarding low latency and gives you more options for choosing a controller.
That has not been my experience.
Bluetooth LE's alright, isn't it? Obviously 'ordinary' Bluetooth is unworkable for pads.
Exactly. Is there latency? I'm sure there is but I don't feel it when I play/record.
I notice some latency with my Korg Microkey Air, and I’m pretty sure that uses LE. It might be device dependent though.
Here's an example: I use a Yamaha BT-101 in my old school DrumKAT to feed MIDI to my iPad Air2. The drummer plays with sticks on the pads and has never commented on latency issues. That strikes me as a pretty tough use case for BT MIDI.
Getting one of those Yamaha wireless 5 pin dongles tonight. I plan to use an Alesis samplepad and korg controlpad to drum/tap midi into BM3. Will report back.
I have a korg microkey and feel it’s very useable latency wise.
The Yamaha BT midi dongle is hit and miss for me. Does not fire up on Beatstep, Alesis Q25 or Rockband midi guitar. Pretty sure it's to do with the new midi spec of allowing 3.3 volts to power centre midi pin rather than 5 volts. Or possibly, centre pin not connected at all.
I suspect the Samplepad won't work with the dongle as its on this list of non working gear with Midisolutions adapters. This also gives a good rundown of the power to midi problem.

Crap I hope thats not true of the samplepad. I can believe it’s a problem with the Q25. Never could get an iPad to recognize that thing through CCK
Alesis Samplepad works great with the Yamaha MD BT01. Was able to record 32nd notes.
That's awesome! Yeah the q25 is ok with the cck for me but not the bt adapter.
I'm thinking of getting a Keystep but am waiting to find out if it will work with MD BT01 ?
