Cubasis 2 - Update Strangeness
Version 2.2 came out in July and yet the App Store shows it as coming out 1 day ago.
Also I noticed that Discchord reported a new version but it looks the same as the July Update to me.
Something odd going on but hopefully signs of a new update imminent (maybe they pulled it to add more free content when they saw what Apple had done with GB). Fingers crossed.
Comments
It's most likely an AppStore Glitch...
Mr Webb of Dischord says last time he saw this happen it was because dev had uploaded update but set a specific date for release.. which might mean Cubasis update very soon. could be the Garageband update got in the way so Steinberg holding off?
all speculation is, of course, pointless. I'm sure when it comes it will be a lovely thing with a few pocket money IAPs for us to jolly @LFS along with.
True, I'm quite eager to get my fingers on the Gadget update as well!
My 3 'most used apps' at the moment are BM3, Gadget and Cubasis...
(I would love to see something similar to Ableton 'Simpler' as a built-in plug-in or even as an AUv3).
yes the new 'Sandwich Sampler' in gadget might just get me back on the gadget wagon more regularly. But if thats for next spring with the Switch release best make do with the pathetic options we have currently
)))))))))))
yes yes yes i said yes.
Indeed, Cubasis 2.2, Cubasis LE 2.2 and Cubasis Importer 2.2 were all released back in July.
So this seems to be an AppStore issue...
As mentioned before, the next update is in full progress and will feature lots of great new stuff and improvements...
Best,
Lars

Or Mandela Effect.
Probably no chance, but I for one would be willing to buy an IAP that gave Fab Filter compatibility.
Very exciting, really looking forward to it.
Any opportunities to run multiple instances of M15 and full screen AU extensions would be amazing but whatever happens, can't wait.
If you're bringing the Mandela Effect into the equation, then of course there's a chance! I would like to see the Mandela Effect as an AU so I can run multiple instances.
I believe you already have
And so do we...
As of yet, full screen AU extensions are not in the plan.
In our view, the existing AUX/arrangement split view in Cubasis provides an efficient workflow, but are open to hear other opinions.
What do you mean by running multiple instances of Moog 15 in detail?
Not aware of anything we could do in this regard.
Thanks,
Lars

I’d buy that, too. In some realities, I already have.
Hi Lars, thanks for the comment. No worries on Full screen, just thought I'd ask.
About M15, I can only run 1 instance in Cubasis before it all gets v crackly and buggy. By contrast, in Garage Band I can run 4 instances before I run into any problems. I wondered if it was the way M15 operates in Cubasis? Anyway thanks for getting back to me, love Cubasis and really excited to see it keep getting better.
Thanks
Matt
Worth noting regarding GarageBand and 'heavy' plug-ins is that GarageBand does 'auto freeze' in the background to save CPU resource. If a plug-in is really heavy on CPU only the instance that is being edited is rendered 'live' the rest is 'wave playback'
(Ie. when you see 'Optimizing Performance' in GarageBand it actually freezing tracks).
This might be something to consider regarding 'optimisation' for future versions of Cubasis...
One has to wonder if the more recent synth apps are written in Javascript or something, considering that one instance of them freezes up the equivalent of a 2011 desktop music workstation (sorry couldn't resist
)
As no reply from Mr Lars, I’m thinking that it will be a cold day in hell before Cubasis has Fab Filter compatibility. A pity, as that would steal some Auria thunder.
But I’m sure there will be lots of other great stuff in the upcoming Cubasis.
I'm not sure it's up to Lars to incorporate FabFilter effects, and he has been very forthright in his replies to other queries. It would also quite likely spell the end of Auria Pro, were the exclusive use of the FabFilters removed.
I would LOVE to see Cubasis take advantage of the extra space on the 12.9" iPad Pro. My only real complaint about the app is that it can definitely feel cramped when you have a few things open on screen (As opposed to Garageband or Auria which scale to accommodate a larger device).
Other than that, ghost parts would be nice
I miss those from the early pre VST version of Cubase...
It was easy to create a 'ghost part', transpose it, add midi-delay/echo and other nice things.
This way one could create say one bass-line with a certain 'feel', create transposed ghost copies then change the 'original' and all ghosts would follow

No doubt a wiser person will correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe that the agreement is exclusive.

I truly doubt it. Last time I saw a couple of months in Priori Data (an app sales tracker), Auria Pro was leading the iOS DAWs by a comfortable margin. Of course the FabFilters has a great share in this success, but as multitrack audio editor and mixing tool, Auria is still very hard to beat even without the famous plug-ins or advanced MIDI capabilities it also has. Auria main shortcoming is as a composition tool, where Cubasis really shines with its stellar workflow (duplicate tracks is a killer feature).
You may be right, but I would imagine that some proprietary hack/licensing agreement is the only thing preventing highly sought-after FabFilter plug-ins from being available outside Auria. There's no business logic to it, but what do I know?
And @theconnactic I'm surprised by the sales of Auria, but my impression is based largely on the forums, which certainly has a number of Auria power users but apparently is dwarfed by those using Cubasis. (Judging purely, and foolishly, by the clear dominance of Cubasis vs AP threads here.)
Facts! Who knew?
Curious, @ExAsperis99, I was exactly talking about that in another topic. This forum is good, perhaps the best iOS resource forum, and yet many people here seems to have come from electronic music, or Ableton Live, or both, plus the main iOS Youtubers (Doug Woods and Jacob Haq) don’t use or even talk about Auria. On the other hand, the actual “Auria vs Cubasis” topics usually end up tied, even here. Btw, it was because of one of these topics, a couple of years ago, that I ended up buying Auria instead of Cubasis (I also have Cubasis, though: once it was updated to 2.0 it became really good).
What about AU MIDI out?
@ExAsperis99, unfortunately PrioData was put behind a paywall since the last time I checked, but there is this cool alternative App Annie, so you can check for yourself how well Auria Pro is doing (and Cubasis is doing well too, for that matter):

Hi Zen210507,
Sorry, if I missed something - what comment is missing from my end?
Please don't expect any comments on other DAW apps, apart from positive ones.
We're all together in this great small iOS world - competition is always healthy, refreshing, and lastly makes this journey an exciting one for all of us. Alongside, it is great to be on regular exchange with many iOS developers. Beneath the fact, there are lots of nice pals out there, this hopefully helps to improve the interaction between all our apps.
In regards to the upcoming update: We're pretty satisfied scope-wise, and hope you and other users will like the update too...
Best,
Lars

Hi Lars. All I was asking was if there would be any possibility of Cubasis doing a deal with Fab Filters to make those available in your app?
iPad Pro support is on our list, but will take more time unfortunately...
Using the 12.9" on a daily basis myself, please check the available zooming options and full screen mode.
Both are easily accessible and come in handy to adjust the Cubasis layout matching your taste and tasks in no time in my view.
If helpful, here are two quicktip clips, where Andrew shed some light on both features:
Full Screen Mode | Cubasis Quick Tips

Zoom In and Out | Cubasis Quick Tips

Hope that helps...
Best,
Lars
